Cars and trucks section but CR80 sounds like a motorcycle. right?
You need two basic things:
1) Spark - pull the spark plug, connect the lead, hold against the head, and spin it over. Spark shoulld be hot and blue.
2) Fuel - Drain tank and fill with fresh gas
Drain and flush carb
If it has a filter, make sure that fuel is flowing through it.
Try a "normal" start........... choke, kick over 5 times. If no start, remove plug and check for fuel in cylinder. Wet plug means no spark. Dry plug means no fuel.
If dry plug try priming the carb (give it a squirt of gas with choke off)
It should try to start.

the gas in New Zealand in our 91 octane is 80% tolulene which is an industrial solvent, it goes off after six months, makes the engine hard to start,if at all. the engine might not run on all cylinders, the gas fouls the spark plugs. i have had to drain tanks and fit new hotter heat range spark plugs to fix some engines.
Check your fuses the one for check engine light might be bad. Every time I had a misfire with my Kia the check engine like came on. You may also take it to an Auto Zone or a store that checks the computer of your vehicle for free. If it is a misfire there are a few remedies I know of
First if you haven't changed your spark plugs in the past few years you should look at replacing them.
Second older vehicles the gas tends to get sediment in it because you are not using all of the gas in your tank even if you run it out. I found that out because it would drive fine until I filled the tank up which in turn churned up the sediment from the bottom went through my gas line and caused a misfire. The easiest way to fix that is maybe a gas treatment which may break down the sediment. The harder and more expensive is drain the tank change the pump and the fuel filter. You don't need to drain the tank entirely to change both but it defeats the purpose of change both and still having sediment in the tank.
Third in order get the computer checked, change spark plugs, have leads checked, then use fuel treatment. Just so you know when you use fuel treatment it will run a little rough at the beginning because the sediment is being broken down give it a week or so to let it run its course.
if it is posible for you to drain the the old gasoline out and refill the tank with fresh gasoline that would be great, but if you only have a1/4 tank and draining the tank is not posible fill your tank up with supreme gas not regular the better grade gas with the high octane will dilute the old gas and help burn off the gas when the car starts.if you have more then 1/2 a tank try to pump out the gas with a driil pump, you can buy these a your local hardware store insert hose in filler neck of the tank.you should also remove the spark plugs and with and oil can add 8 good pumps of the can of motor oil in the cylinders do not replace plugs **** with a freshly charged battery turn the engine over few time in 2 or 3 second intervals this will kleen any rust that would have built up on the cylinder walls and also lube up the cylinder wall so that at start up the cylinder wont be dry ,add a few more sqirts of oil between turnovers.Replace spark plug if old ones look bad put spark plug in and start her up its going to smoke a bit at firts **** it will stop after the oil that was put in the cylinders burns off,let the engine idle for 10-15 minutes before putting any strain on motor give it a chance to clean out cylinders burn a few tanks of gas and change gas filter it should be fine.
1.) put aside about $50 that you are ging to spend... period
2.) drain the oil and remove the old oil filter
3.) install a new oil filter, add new 30W oil
4.) remove all 8 spark plug wire from the 8 spark plugs
5.) remove the 8 spark plugs
6.) spray about 5 seconds of WD40 into each of 8 spark plug holes
7.) spray the remainder of the can into each of the 2 valve covers thru the EGR holes (pull out the EGR valve first)
8.) making certain that you have a full battery charge, turn the starter switch to START for about 5 seconds... if your engine turns then your internals are not frozen... that's good
9.) open another can of WD40 and spray equal amounts into ecah of 8 spark plug holes a second time
10.) turn the start switch on for another 5 seconds and listen for strange sounds... by the way without the spark plugs the engine will rotate more quickly than you normally expect... not a problem because as it turns it is lubricating your internal parts
11.) wait a minute and then turn it on for for about 10-20 seconds while listening for scraping or knocking sounds... if none heard then you are all lubed up and ready to reinstall the spark plugs.
Install new plugs or sandpaper the old with the correct gap ( I believe .035")
12.) if you didn't mark the plug wires not a problem... Google '78 Chevy Distributor Firing Order to find terminal #1 on the distributor cap... usually about the 1 o'clock position
13.) install #1 wire to #1 sparkplug... the driver's side front closest to the radiator
14.) the distributor rotates like a clock (clockwise) and the numbers on the clock starting at #1 is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2.... this is the firing order in a clockwise direction
15.) take the next plug wire #8 and connect it to #8 spark plug
Note: the spark plug numbers are cast into the top of the intake manifold for easier identification
16.) conect the remaining wires to their respective plugs
17.) make certain that you have a full battery charge, some gas in the tank (gas evaporates over 3 years) and a full radiator.
18.) Turn the starter switch and listen for the engine to start
19.) If it doesn't start the first time, try again and wait for the gas to reach the carburetor.... try again
20.) if it still doesn't start spray some engine strating fluid into the carbuetor throat and try again... it should start
21.) if it starts but doesn't keep running then repeat step 20. unitl the gas reaches the carburetor and continues to run on its own...!
With a new plug and fresh gas it should start. Check to make sure there isn't a kill switch turned off or that the gas petcock from the tank to the carb is on.
How did you check the fuel filter? Disconnecting it from the fuel line that goes to the carb is the best way, making sure the gas is turned on under the tank. Bleed off a little gas into a can or something just to make sure the filter isn't plugged.
The last thing I'd do is take off the air filter and spray a little starting fluid in the carb. It may start and run several times if there is old gas in there somewhere. Remember the bowl on the carb is probably still full of old gas. After some fresh fuel reaches the plug it should start and continue to run.
(You might drain the bowl on the carb of ols gas before you go any further)
change your oil, spark plugs and spark plug wires and definitely figure out how much gas is in the car and then you should drain and re-fill the tank. To run the old gas through the motor will cause you serious problems. Also the battery should be replaced
if you believe some one put water or bad gas in your tank, then you will have to drain the tank. however, to know if you have water in your gas, first disconnect fuel return line or the line that goes in to the fuel pressure regulator put some fuel in a clear glass and let it sit for 15min.if you see white cloud at the bottom of the glass or water. drain the tank. if not check for spark by removing one spark plug wire and spark plug. place the spark plug in the spark plug wire boot and touch it on the metal part of the car. do not touch the spark plug itself only the booth with the plug in the boot. have some one crank the car over. if you see spark, the spark part is ok. but if no spark, check the coil with a volt meter it should be 3 to 8 ohm if not replace the coil. if ok, check for fuel by removing one spark plug or two and see if they are wet,if wet pump is ok. if not check the fuel pump relay and fuse. if fuse is blown replace. check relay with a volt meter. resistance of the relay should be between 40 to 80 ohm. not mega ohm,if mega ohm, replace. if not , listen to the fuel pump while some one is cranking the car. if you donot hear the pump, disconnect the pump electrical connector and applive 12 volt and ground to the pump by using a jumper or any wire and listen for pump sound. if not replace the pump. if there is sound coming from the pump, it is ok. check the fuel pressure regulator with a fuel pressure gauge or simply disconnect the vaccum from the regulator and try starting the car. if fuel pump is ok and spark is ok. then it maybe the computer or the crank position signal. also check the fuel filter it may be clog.
