Check all the plugs for spark then check the timing with a timing gun either to zero degrees or advanced it depends check your haynes or chilton manual it will say what degree to time the ignition and for the 89 you just spin the cap after loosening the 9/16 bolt at the base until that baby purrs.

I have a 1987 ford ranger the engine turns over but it wont start

Spark at plugs? Fuel filter? Pressure on injector delivery line? Pressure relief valve? You may be able to measure fuel pressure at the pressure relief valve location. and return line. If you have spark, I'd say it's a fuel supply problem

89 B2600I: engine starts and runs if you spray starting fluid in air intake- you quit then it quits. Injectors have 12 volts. computer has constant & ignition 12 volts plus several good ground...

So we would have to assume from what you're saying that the injectors are not being pulled to ground by the computer. Have you tried listening to them with a mechanics stethoscope? The computers are a common problem but if another one gives the same result then I'd have to say that the wiring harness between the computer and the injector is suspect. You will have to check the continuity between the injector plug and the connector that goes into the computer. You will need a wiring diagram but I think the wire colors at the injector should be the same as they enter the computer. I would strongly suggest that you confirm fuel pressure though. I know what you mean by fuel at the injectors, but pressure is important.

I bought the truck yesterday the guy put new computer new coil and he said he could never get it to fire do you think its in the distriburtor

The distributor is for injector timing, not adjustable
as far as ignition timing goes. computer does that.
The is a Hall Effect Sensor in the dist, for injectors
If dist was moved you will have issues
There is an Auto Shut Down Relay in the distribution
box on the driver side fender. If it fails nothing works,
fuel pump,ign etc.

1987 toyota corolla 3dr hatchback with 1.6l DOHC 16v eng. Came in with a no start. have spark and check engine light is on with key and get a code 6. TPS all checks out good. Checked wires from distributor...

A code 6 is an RPM missing signal. Your distributor coil circuit is open (or could be the coil).Check continuity with a volt meter.Check the blue/yel wire and the white one for cracks or broken, and if possible trace them to the computer for continuity. This malfuntion is a code 6 BUT car should start even so. Now to the injectors:check pulsating ground from computer,if not check wiring,if they are OK,try another computer.

Car won't start

check backnnector on distributor assy. It's hard to find because is on the side just in the point nobody reach. Often it missconnect or broke. check, fix or re adjust as needed. check firing order of cables If not result.... 1.-unplug any spark cable and put a screwdriver inside it and place it in a safe place near a ground point. The object is try to see the spark jumping to ground. 1 or 2 cm will work for it. If you see spark, check fuel pump circuitry. uncap carburator and see if injectors spray gas when you try to engine. If you can see spark, change module inside the distributor cap.
if injector doesn't spray, check fuel pump, you must hear it for few seconds when you turn key to accs if you place your ear near thank. fuel pump work for few seconds but no spray on injectors: the same module above mentioned. if injector sprays and spark jump, the car must start
