Steering making a growling noise when turning.

take it to a power steering specialist shop for a proper diagnosis and quote

power steering is low on fluid or going bad.

Water pump or pulley most likely.

Always replace water pump and pulleys when you do the timing belt.

Also you may have overtightened the belt.

NOTE, Kevlar belts will make a "whirring" noise for a few thousand miles after replacement, but not a growling.

Get it into a shop

If we could guess down to every failed
part & the cost of repair, it still is not safe
to use as is

If it is filled up to the "full hot" mark then you are okay, fluid wise. It almost sounds like once it gets warmed up, it starts running better. The "growling" noise (especially when turning) could be from it not getting enough fluid. Other than that, your power steering pump maybe on its last legs, and it is taking time to warm up before it starts pumping fluid correctly. Just make sure that you power steering resevoir is completely filled to the proper mark.

Does it growl more when you turn the steering wheel? If so then the power steering pump is going out, or is very low on fluid.

What kind of noise, if growling and grinding check and replace wheel bearing. If thumping clunking type noise check steering intermediate shaft, makes noise in both directions.

if gets low definitely a leak foam is pump mixing fluid with air roar is pump cavitation check lines or pump for leak keep fluid at recommended level air bound unit can cause steering difficulty and or failure if need have trained mech look into problem

Sounds like Your Power Steering Pump is on it's Death March. Replace it and your Problem will go away.
