Transmission slips when car is cold or going around turns.
The car machanic I took it to said the trans oil is full, I'm wondering if he told me the truth seeing how you have to tear off something above the dip stick to check it.

Sounds like a servo seal (o-ring) in the trans itself. If the seal leaks, it will not allow the proper pressure to build in the circuit that engages bands and clutches. I see a trans rebuild in your future.
Hi Lb,
My car is RX300 1999 and has the same problem. I changed the fluid 2 years ago after the trans slip and lost the shift. Afterwards it worked for another 2 years. But recently it doesn't work again even I change fluid and put Stop Slip additive to the trans. I was told the trans has to be rebuilt. So changing fluid and filter can help to maintain the trans for sure and can prevent problem. But if the trans has already worn a lot, it can't help at last.
Make sure the trans fluid is filled to specs! That may be your whole problem. If u only are running w 13% trans fluid you are asking for trouble w your trans. GET IT SERVICED TOO BEFORE INSTALLING FRESH FLUID! (that's how I would word it too my csrs)
What code is it pulling up? Have you checked all the vaccum hoses? To answer your question about the tranny, yes they can be rebuilt, no need to buy a new transmission. Cost is around $2,600 to get it rebuilt. But, let me know what code is popping up.
Did you have it serviced or rebuilt, If you had it rebuilt I would take it back to the trans shop for warranty repairs.
If they just changed the trans filter I don't think it would cause your problem. You just have bad luck with the slipping trans
lol dont run over trees! seriously check shifter connection under chassis if off twisting under load may cause it to move, trans over heating, or trans may be in need of rebuild
I had the same problem I changed the transmission fluid & put a new filter in the trans, this fixed it good until I put my foot down to overtake the trans kicked down to 2nd gear & the hold light started flashing again & the trans started slipping again. I stressed over it for a day or 2 & then I took it out for a drive & thrashed it, Low & behold it came right. When you change fluid its impossible to get all the old fluid out because the torque converter holds a liter or two under pressure, so when I put my foot down some of the gunk blew through & blocked the pump it looses pressure & cant change gear. You need to get it flushed by a transmission specialist
you can flush out the trans all you hace to do is remove one of the trans cooler lines off the radator and start it and the oil will come out at the same time you add oil to to the trans
your trans oil most likely needs changing. it should be changed every 50,000 mile. over time the fluid breaks down and the trans mission slips. your trans is operated by pressure and when it is hot he pressure drops because the oil is not as thick as it should be this is refered as viscoscity. In the mean time until you get it changed, you can buy an additive from Napa for around 10.00 dollars to put in the trans. it's made by Lucas Oil and it works for the slipping in the short term. please rate this
