E most common problem is the spring on the fuel door breaks off. Have someone pull on the release cable handle, insert a credit card or something like that under the edge of the gas door, see if it will open that way. If it opens, look at the hinged end, you will probably see a piece of plastic, which holds a piece of bent springy metal. If the bent piece of metal is missing, you need to buy another at a Toyota dealer parts dept. If the bent piece of metal IS there, bend it further open to increase the tension. Try this, & if neither helps, get back to me for further info.

How do you open the gas cap

the fuel "hatch" has a press and release catch, press the rearmost part of the hatch then release once it clicks, this will allow you to gain access to the fuelling cap. the cap can be removed by just unscrewing it counter clockwise

Why does the rear hatch not unlock?

Sometimes the latch can fill up with debris and not have the slack in it so that it will work. Try the key instead of the power lock to manually release it. With much of the trim being plastic, it is not easy to find a good place to apply pressure. If you can press down on the hatch while turning the key, you may compress the rubber hatch seal and create slack to allow the latch to release.

If that does not work, the actuator rod may be disconnected. It can be difficult to remove the cover panel with the hatch shut. You would be better to go to a Dealer for an expert to open it.

How to replace a fuel pump on a toyota rav4 1998

you need to remove the rear seat to get to it, just keep in mind the system is preasurized, which in english means you need to loosen the fuel filter in the front of the car first, "THIS IS CRITICAL" if not you will cause gas to get all over the interior. The 96-00 rav4 has a hatch under the carpet, under the seats in the rear. it is a pain to get to, once you remove the seats and carpet you will see it. I would recomend you bring it to a dealer if you dont know what you are doing. But if you are like me and figured what the hell, then you will want to take these steps first...
1. Let the car sit for a long period of time, about 3 hours or more.
2. Have a low amount of fuel, do not have a full tank
3. loosen the gas cap
4. Remove the intake, and the fuse box,
5. Loosen the top nut on the fuel filter under the hood to let out the remaining pressure, do not loose the O rings. This is a good time to replace that filter too, it is about 30 bucks from toyota.
6. open the hatch in the rear,
7. remove the electric feeds from the pump.
NOTE: YOU CAN REMOVE THE POWER FROM THE PUMP AND START THE CAR TO TAKE OUT THE PREASURE, BUT I FOUND IT BETTER TO DO IT MY WAY DUE TO WHAT IT TAKES TO START IT AFTER YOU DO THIS.
8. line the floor of the rav with Plastic, bags, or cardboard, or something.
9. remove old pump
10. install new pump
11. Re attach the fuel filter or install new filter
12. get car back together enough to start it, make sure you have all the lines connected, if not gas will get everywhere...
Good Luck, it was a FUN adventure to do this...

2002 Honda Civic Gas Hatch will not open

If te lever feels "empty", then yes the cable is broken. The cable should be visible from the underside of the car and you should be able to pull it with a proper pair of gloves. This is how it is done on older Accords but I have no knowledge on newer models.
