Dim Headlights/headlight problem

Headlights are both dim and when brights are turned on,passenger side goes completely out.Tried new truview headlights and they are dimmer than original. Checked for loose/bad ground(s) and checked fuses and relays as problems there. Any suggestions?

Same problem here. 1994 Model...both lights very dim all the time. I do think that I have Day Time Running lights installed as they do NOT go off at all just on dim all the time (headlight switch does nothing. Could the DTRL resistor or module (assuming it has one) be bad?? Manual and tec manual no help at all.

Ignore what I said is a better version of the headlight issue.

This one is a mess. Great little carbought a year ago. Whoever had it before me had installed a aftermarketcruise control which worked for a few months then stopped working.About the same time (I am GUESSING about the same time) normalheadlight functions went south. When the headlights are turned on theyonly come on VERY dim (Right one slightly brighter then the left). Thebrights work fine. The car does not have Day Time Lights (as they do goall the way off).

I have checked the fuses and what wiring I can for the cruise control(which I do not care about) The guy who put in the CC seemed to do agood job but there is a lot of new wiring for the CC that does notmatch the wiring diagram and the two issues may not have anything to dowith each other. Haynes Manuals are no help. HELP!! Thanks in Seattle

If that is the case i believe your altenator is bad and draining the battery the altenator runs the engine and charges the battery the battery starts the vehicle and runs all the electronics and accessories the regulator is not working and therefore the battery is not getting charged and as the vehicle is running and the lights are on they will get dimmer and dimmer until there is no voltage left in the battery. reploace the altenator and the problem will go away...please rate this

sir that doesn't mean that the altenator is not bad just because your battery has not drained completely please change the rating you asked for a suggestion this is insulting

These cars have a number of problems with headlights. Start off with checking to see that you have the necessary voltage going to the headlights and work your way back. Check out the fuse panel down in the kick panel on the driver side as this has a tendency to short circuit The headlight problem is the Metros is in the fuse block. As you look at it, its the 6 wire connector in the lower right corner, usually burns the right wire. Another happens to be from the headlight switch arm. Which you can get at a local junk yard. Just the arm as they can vary in connection but that would be up to you. Well hope this helps. Rate me.

It could be that you have a poor ground wire on either or both headlights.

Alternator failed and blew the headlights 2 qty. dim, 1 qty. bright. Replaced the alternator and the headlights, but the dims don't stay on when the brights are engaged.

Normal operation of the headlight circuit is to just have one set of headlights on a time, bright or dim, but not both.

remove both bulbs from the lamps but leave them on their wires switch on and see if the bulbs are still different brightness if not they the passenger side lamp housing has damaged mirror is dirty or missalined and needs adjustment. if they are different brightness then this may be a earthing problem.

Sounds like your ground wire is broken (which could be broken, overheated, loose or corroded) If the color of the copper has changed(looks gray) or is corroded then you must replace the plug.

first i would want to know that all the headlamps are in good working order. it kind of sounds like these are also bad bulbs. you will also need to look for good ground wires just behind the headlamp assemblies. to answere your question, YES. if things were not repaired properly and without attention to detail then you could have wiring issues. on the plus side it doesnt sound too difficult. try these items first.

Head Lights go dim, instrument panel goes dim when I turn on my Headlights

Does it go completely black or just dim? Most displays dim when you turn the lights on to make the display darker so its not too bright. GPS and other displays do this. Do you have any problems with any other of the car's electronics?
