Vehicles: Chevy (GM) Malibu 2001-2005 3.1L SFI OHV 6-cylinder

Your battery has died since the alternator is not charging it. Jumping the car works to start the engine since the Malibu is using the energy of the second car to start and turn the engine.
Its possible that your belt may not be correctly routed or tensioned.

Check your 3.1L engine accessory drive belt routing. The arrow points in the direction in which the drive belt moves.

NOTE
Routine inspection of the belt may reveal cracks in the belt ribs. These cracks will not impair the belt performance. The belt should be replaced if the belt slip occurs if a section of the belt ribs are missing. A single serpentine drive belt is used to drive all engine accessories. All belt driven accessories are rigidly mounted with the belt tension maintained by a spring loaded tensioner. The indicator on the movable portion of the tensioner must be within the limits of the marks of the stationary portion of the tensioner. Any reading outside of these limits indicates either a defective belt or tensioner.

(1) Remove engine mount.
(2) Rotate the drive belt tensioner in a clockwise motion using a breaker bar or serpentine belt tool.
(3) Remove the drive belt.

Fig. 2.
Removal and installation of the drive belt - tool is shown installed on the tensioner. Arrow points to the power steering pump pulley.

To install:

(1) Rotate the drive belt tensioner in a clockwise motion using a breaker bar or serpentine belt tool.
(2) Install the drive belt. Connect the serpentine drive belt last to the power steering pulley.
(3) Install engine mount.

I have a 99 chevy malibu ls. It started just fine until one day I came out to find it would not crank over. Just got the dash lights. Thought it was the battery so I put my jump pack on it and it started...

That would indicate a dead battery. Get it load tested for free at your local auto parts dealer. Also make sure connections are tight. It would be the alternator if battery load test is good.

What you have to do is take the drive belt off and a jumper cable hooked up see if it runs if it does it might be the alternator maybe going bad also spin the alternator while th belt is off and see if it makes noise

2005 Chevy Aveo, clicks but start won't catch and when jumped it doesn't charge what could it be??

Your alternator is not charging the Battery, I would replace the battery with a new gel battery and have the alternator checked, bets on your battery just died.

My 2003 chevy malibu cranks but wont start. battery is good and altenator is good

To clarify - - if the engine cranks the battery and starter are ok.
The alternator does not come into play until the engine is running.
If it cranks but won't start, you have to figure out if you are missing fuel to the injectors or spark to the plugs to proceed.
A mechanic would check that and if there are any trouble codes stored in the computer.

The VUE wouldn't start so we got a jump. The

Most likely you have a voltage regulator on the alternator going bad. That is why one test was bad then one test was good. The voltage regulator is most likely integrated into the alternator. Replace the Alternator and that should resolve the problems.
