Either the oil pump has failed or the sending unit is defective on the engine. and i would hope the sending unit is the problem .. you need to have a reputable mechanic do a manual oil pressure test to determine the exact amount of oil pressure at operating temp. as well as when the engine is cold..ie after engine has been turned off over nite if you hear ANY STRANGE NOISE shut down the engine immediately do not drive ...after all a tow to the shop is cheaper than a new engine ...hope this helps GOOD LUCK

If the oil light is on and you have the pan full with oil it's a faulty oil sending unit provided that there is adequate pressure. make sure you check the validity of oil flow by just removing the oil fill cap on the valve covers while the engine is running you should notice some oil flow. if there is your oil sending unit is bad if there is not your oil pump is no good. please rate.

Why does oil light stay on when oil level is okay?

The oil light is not an indication of oil level; rather it is an indication of oil pressure. If the oil pressure is low enough to light the oil light, you should be hearing some rattling in the engine. Otherwise, it is possible that the oil pressure sending unit is defective. You are lucky if that is the case, because some vehicles are wired that if the oil pressure sensor indicates low pressure, the engine will shut down to protect itself. You should have the oil pressure checked with a mechanical gauge ASAP and take whatever corrective measures are necessary.

Kia carens oil light staying on engine sluggish

Hi John, The oil pressure warning light is indicating pressure not level. You say the warning light is on at all times and the engine is losing power? I believe you should have a compression test carried out on the vehicle. It seems highly possible there has been severe damage to the engine. Is the engine emitting any strange sounds? How long has the oil light been on? How often do you service the vehicle by replacing all filters and engine oil? What engine oil do you use? Regards John

My 89 honda accord oil light comes on when engine is warmed up and stays on and idles high

Could be more than one problem.
The oil light staying on when the engine is warmed up could be a problem with the oil pump or engine bearings.
Its possible the switch for the light is faulty.
You can replace the switch or have the oil pressure checked with a mechanical gauge at a shop.
The high idle could be several things, but I would be more concerned with the oil light.

Oil pressure won't go higher after fixing all parts fan clutch radiator belt changing the oil with the oil filter & oil gasket still can not go higher the pressure the oil light stays on

It is possible the the oil pressure sensor could be bad.The next thing I would do if the light stays on is to hook an actual pressure guage in place of the oil sensor to get an actual pressure reading from the pump.If the pressure is low and doesn't rise when given gas then it could be a bad oil pump. But I would get the sensor tested by a local service station and then go from there. All electrical components can be tested in one form or another.

Oil light stays on and oil level is not low

two possible problems

1.) did not reset the oil light after service
2.) short in the oil pressure or temp sensor circuit

either case, seek assistance from your local dealer or service facility
