Gauge lights not working.

Speedometer and other gauge illumination lights will not come on when headlights or dimmer are turned on. Dimmer works the reading/dome lights ok. Other indicator lights on the cluster seem to be ok. All fuses checked with meter and appear ok.

I have a similar problem - we just changed he starter on a 2000 dodge intrepid and now the guages are not working nor are the light for the dash coming on.

Where is this BCM ground -perhaps it is not connected or we did something to it when we changed the starter?

I had the similar problem until recently in my 1997 Chrysler Intrepid (In Canada they're called Chrysler for some strange reason). There could be two things with your intrepid.

1) Body Control Module (BCM) - There are ground wires and other important electrical components leading to your BCM. Over time and with some unknown wear (according to Chysler) the wires fray and somehow short circuit your BCM. This is quite difficult to replace and expensive if you go to a dealer. I was quoted almost up to $5000+ for repairs and they would not guarantee it was a fix. Still I suggest to find one at a junkyard and try to replace it yourself.

2) Instrument Panel Cluster - My new junkyard BCM worked for about a month bringing everything to life, then the same problem happend again. The next step for me was to replace the entire front Instrrument cluster ( Odometer, fuel readings etc) Ever since replacing this front panel, no problems have existed since then. Its been about 3 months, and all the gauges are working fine.

Best of luck to all...

1994 silverado illumination on instrument panel doesn't work, parking lights and tail lights do not work but headlights and brakelights work fine. All fuses are good. Is this a bad dimmer switch?

No. Dash lights being out could be a bad headlight switch, since the dash lights are routed through the headlight switch, not the dimmer switch. Park and tail lights also controlled by the headlight switch.

Gauge cluster Illumination problems

Do you have the dash light dimmer control turned off by mistake, a common cause. It is next to the headlight switch.

Dash lights do not work 2000 ford exploier

All go out at once, first check fuses, then dimmer switch for dash lights, finally headlight switch. To check dimmer switch, pull connection off back, on harness with test light and headlight switch activated, 1 of the leads should have power, if so, use ohm meter on dimmer to make sure it has reading between 0 and some value, if no value, open, dimmer is bad, if there wasn't power then check headlight switch, there should be heavier gauge wire that powers switch and 1 for output to hi/lo switch, smaller gauge wires for tail lamps, dash lights, license plate lamps, parking lights. The color wires from dimmer would correspond to the same colored wires on headlamp switch, probe that connection on headlamp switch with switch engaged and see if you have power, if not replace switch, if so, check wire from switch to dimmer. Now if the lights slowly went from bright one day, to less bright some other day, to not working, then the bulbs are bad... good luck...

I am having a problem with the instrument gauge cluster in my 1996 Chevy Cavalier 2.2L Coupe. I have been on here before for problems, and the best one was the dimmer switch could be bad. The problem is...

Aside from the dimmer, there is also a 10 amp fuse you can see in the diagram below. Sorry I cannot find instructions on changing the dimmer, but if you can short the connector and get the lights to come on, then you will know it is bad.

The dash board light does not come on

I assume you mean the illumination for the Speedometer/gauges/etc. when the headlights are turned on. Have you checked for a blown fuse ?
The electronic bits inside the dimmer control for these lights sometimes go faulty.
A temporary fix is to remove the wiring plug that attaches to the back of the dimmer control and put a jumper wire across the terminals.

pull the dash light dimmer rheostat and test it, chances are it is open and is the problem, If the dimmer has power to it and the lights don't work then the dimmer switch is defective, the fuse is most likely not a problem, it would be the instrument cluster fuse, remember any fuse being blown indicates a shorted circuit.

Speedometer gauge/climate control lights dont work

Look for a dimmer wire,, sounds like your radio dont have the option for the car dimmer switch,,

the power for these lights run through the dimmer wire for the radio. ether its not hooked up or the radio dont have the option for it.

there is a way to bypass the radio dimmer option,, BUT you have to know what your doing or you could fry something.

look for Car Radio Illumination/dimmer Wire: should be Green.

When my headlights come on at night, the dash lights will not come on and the radio illumination behind the clock goes out. Why is this?

Check the dimmer switch to your dash light. If there turned down, your dash and radio illumination light will be dime or not working at all. Keep me posted, be glad to know if it is the dimmer switch turned down or you dimmer switch has gone bad. Good luck
