Question about 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

CD "disc error" in Jeep Grand Cherokee

I have a 6 disc CD changer in my '05 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
It is part of the AM/FM unit with navigation. About 1/2 way through a CD it stopped playing. Now, every time I put in a CD it says "disc error" and ejects the CD. I have tried several different CDs, even 2 brand new ones and tried them in each of the 6 slots. It always says "disc error."

Any suggestions? Thank you !!

I have the same problem, except my radio won't eject any of the 6 discs that I have in the unit. No sticky labels either and I'd be very surprised if someon had put a coin in it--my kids are older and hopefully wiser than that.

I have the same problem. I just purchased a used 2005 Jeep. Radio works fine. Dealer won't fix it. My own fault for not checking that it worked before signing on the line even though the next day they said they would take care of it. I assumed it was fine since it was advertised as having a CD player. I am going to pull it out myself and see what's up. I will let you know if I find anything.

I too a similar problem with my 05 Grand Cherokee 6-disc changer. I only have 1 CD in it and I can't eject it now, disc has no label. Get Disc Error message on the display. Couldn't find anything in the manual for emergency disc ejection solutions.

Just bought the 2005 rand Cherokee Ltd with the 6 CD changer/Nav system. Loaded 6 CDs and played just fine for about 1 day, then in mid-song it stopped and disk error message appeared. I ejected all of the disks and tried to re-load but keep getting the disck error mssage. I used canned air, and a cleaning disk, but it won't play the cleaning disk either. Don't know what to do?????

The in-trunk units have a tendancy to go bad. you can take the cover plastic interior cover off to access the CD changer, un bolt the changer, and visualy inspect the two rollers for debris, or missing /broken gears that move the rollers to take the CD from the CD cartrage to the player. if that looks fine, chances are that the laser went bad (common in rear mount units) and you can order a new one from Jeep, or you can remove it and update the in-dash head to an aftermarket of your choice (& yes you steering wheel controls will still work). you could also fit a more modern MP3 unit where the Changer was.

Mech Comm Error

sounds like they may have forgotten to take out transit plugs from radio which holds cd mechanism in place when shipping unless you got a new radio thats a dud? but that may also mean dealer didnt check operation of new unit after replacement if replaced which is what usually needs to be done when this error message comes up
