Idle speed problem

When u push in the clutch to shift gears the engine rev's up and wont stop till u tap ******* the gas feed . i have put on a new cable and an idle speed motor . Idle issues when starting and shifting. Starting begins with about 2500 RPM's. It then drops to 1100 at idle. When shifting gears engine revs to 3500 or more and will not fall for at least 3 or 4 seconds Have tried theree new idle motors. No change. Computer tells that everything is fine. Any suggestions would be great.

HI..
On youe Vehicle,
I know the Clutch Pedal Have No relation with the Idle system.
But I recomend, Check the Pedals comparment. For any linkage or cable movement affecting the
any of the others.

But the Only Relation a can found is,, The Clutch Pedal Switch.
I recomend Check the Switch for any wire damaged,
Or any Alteration on the wiring system.
Disconnect the switch and make a BY PASS, to be able to start the Vehicle.
If after the Vehicle is running good. you will need to follow the wires to the Starter relay.
For any short on the circuit. and replace the Switch.

But if not running good. And the idle go up. Including when the Clutch pedal is Depressed.
Is Mean the Clucth Switch circout is affecting the IDLE AIR MOTOR.
And need to check the Idle Air Motor circuit. from the Idle motor to the Computer....

OK.. I hop this can help a Start of diagnostic.

Thank you for use fixya...

Check the upper intake for vacum leaks, use a can of carb spray, if there is a leak then the engine will react when the carb spray gets sucked in the leak.

SOURCE: wont rev over 3500 rpm

You should go buy a Haynes or Chilton manual to figure this out. Costs about $15. There could possibly more than one reason for this happening. Anything posted in response could only be speculation.

SOURCE: my car will only rev to 2500 rpm in drive or in

Most Japanese manufacturers protect their engines from over-rev by programming the ECU to limit rpms when vehicle speed is zero. 2500 rpms seems low. Usually it is in the 3500-4000 rpm range. Is this car new to you or have you had it a while and this is a new observation?

SOURCE: Y reg Discovery will not rev more than 2500 rpm.

Sounds like it's not boosting, and the engine is stopping you from doing damage - check the wastegate modulator (solenoid on the side of the engine in front of the turbo and under the air intake pipe). Also check that the breather hose has not worn through the wastegate actuator causing a vent to atmosphere. If these are fine, then you may have a vacuum problem - are the brakes ok?

Revs high when i change gear

Is it possible the clutch pedal is interfering with the throttle? Start the engine in neutral and allow it to idle. Press only the clutch pedal down and see if this increase the engine speed. If it does speed up the engine and slows back down when you release the clutch then somehow this operation is where your fault lies. If it doesn't alter the idle speed, then rev your engine and release the throttle to see if it returns to idle immediately. If it is slow to return to idle then your throttle cable could be sticking. This means when you change gear lifting off the throttle has little effect and depressing the clutch to change gear causes the engine to race as the throttle is still partially open.

I have a 91 toyota celica that will not go when put into gear.

Have you had problems with clutch slipping up to this point? Like engine revving up and no change in speed while driving. Like going into 4th or 5th gear, letting clutch out, giving gas, and feels like no response? Engine just revs up? That's a slipping clutch.
If that's your problem, you need a new clutch.

Engine speed hunts on idle. Auto trans slow shift.

The fast idle valve is inside the throttle body. Sometimes it backs out and needs turned back in (it's threaded). This will cause the loping idle.

Get transmission filter changed with new fluid. Honda does not recommend transmission flushing.

I had a similar problem, engine would fluxuate engine idle speed. I had to change the "Throttle Position Sensor." You might have that checked out.
