Well for one you have to remove the trans mount and let the motor sag back and you have to have the proper tools i have a 3 foot ext. with a wobble socket. zip zip. go to and check out the repair manuals (online) and just print the instructions for this job. goodluck

My 1996 GMC Suburban has 170600 miles on it. In the last week, it drives fine until you travel about 1/4 mile & reach 30 mph. Then, you loose acceleration. When you push the gas, the engine just revs....

Try dropping the tranny fluid and changing the tranny filter and filling with fresh fluid. Sounds like the tranny is sleeping between shifts.

Cannot remove fan onto waterpump for 1996 gmc suburban

Clutch fan? If you have the wrench to put on the nut, you have to hit it with a hammer, counter clockwise to get it to break free, once it does you can remove it by hand. Also hit it several times after you install it.

1996 GMC Surburban 1500 2wheel drive. Transmission shifts hard, turn engine off, crank engine and drive off ok. After a while it starts shifting hard again.

what RPM's is it shifting at?If it seems to be shifting a lot more then usual it could be a torque converter problem(locking and unlocking),for now I would try having the tranny serviced and see if the shop can adjust the shift points, also check the tranny fluid for color, amount, and smell. It should be a pinkish to red color and not smell burnt,as far as checking the fliud level run it around until the vehicle is up to running temp and follow the instructions on the dip stick for proper procedure.good luck.

1996 gmc suburban transmission shift problem

96 gm trucks had a proble with third gear burning out because of a ground issue from pcm..there was a bulletin for adding a new ground for third gear control circuit...aftermarket trans shops do not remember this problem and it is often overlooked..take to local dealership and you should be able to get problem resolved
