Question about Toyota Avalon

Open Question

P0440 code (Evap Malfunction) on 2001 Toyota 4Runner.

P0440 error code (Evap Malfunction) on 2001 Toyota 4Runner with 90K for miles and no previous problems at all. I had a free computer scan done at an auto parts store and had it reset hoping I had just not properly tightened the gas cap. But the lights came back on after a weekend of driving. I'm hoping it's not the charcoal canister like I've been reading about, because of the cost to have it fixed. Any suggestions what to do from here before I take it to a garage for further investigation?

I've been getting the same code for 5 months now. The charcoal canister was replaced the first time it appeared. The gas cap was replaced at the next come back to the dealer. In between, I bought an ODB II scan tool so I could check the code myself. Last time I had the car back in the dealer, the service advisor told me that the fuel pipe needs to be replaced.

So, I went to another dealer (for a second opinion) and the tech told me that whoever replaced the charcoal canister messed up the leak detection pump which is a part of the charcoal canister assembly. I must now go back to the 1st dealer and i'll find out how it goes since the newly installed canister is still under warranty.

you have to understand that there is a leak in the system other than the gas cap for the evaporative system. The system needs to be professionally closed, and smoke introduced into to find the leak, and a through component check, eg.. purge valve vapor canister vent solenoid all functioning correctly

2001 Toyota Prius with 155,000 miles. The engine battery on this had been replaced in late 2010 under warranty. The car has been suddenly losing power almost everyday for a week, with the triangle warning...

code p0441 refers to evaporative emission EVAP system-incorrect flow detected===causes hose connections--intake leak---EVAP canister purge valve
Po144 refers to the same fault and causes
Po446 refers to EVAP system--vent control-circuit malfunction===causes --wiring---EVAP canister purge valve---ECM In all cases codes the canister purge valve gets a mention and then the ECM. I would take it back and ask that the canister purge valve be changed or even ask for a new canister as there are occasions when filling the tank to the filler hole will induce fuel into the canister causing it to malfunction.

Toyota 4 runner error code PE 0446 what is the problem?

Error code P0446 is an Evaporative Control System vent control malfunction. DTCs P0441 and P0446 are recorded by the ECM when evaporative emissions leak from the certain components, or when there is a malfunction in either the VSV for EVAP, the VSV for
pressure switching valve, or in the vapor pressure sensor itself.
