2001 Focus ! Light Flashing When Going Up Hill

Hi I am having issues with a 2001 Ford Focus, and the last 6-8 months it seems these problems are never ending. My car had 98,000 miles on it and I figure now is the time when everything is going to be going wrong. Just in the last week I was having issues with the car wanting to shut off while driving. Check engine light was on so had it hooked up and got a code. The code indicated air by pass valve needed replaced, so I did that. Then after that was done the shutting off problem became worse, the whole time you were driving you were being jerked around, because it wanted to shut off. So back to the garage, this time it was the MAF (mass air flow) sensor. Picked it up Friday and over the weekend the new trick was everytime I was going up the hill to my house the ! light would click on, act like it wanted to shut off and then would keep going. So on the way back to the garage Monday morning when I came to a stop and went to go again, the car shut completely off, but started right back up. So the garage now thinks that it may be the fuel pump, but they seem baffled. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

I am having the same problem. When I come to a complete stop sometimes it may just shut off, but it starts right back up. When I press on the gas 9 times out of 10 it will start jerking. And now my check engine light is flashing.

Hook up a san tool and monitor the system while the problem happens, pay attention to the O2 sensors to see if they go lean, this would indicate a fuel pump pressure problem.

Check timing of the engine is right using an engine timing light. Make sure the timing belt or chain isn't worn or slack. The head gasket could also have gone and may need replacing.

The engine hesition sometime 04 expedition 5.4

Most likely you have a bad COP (Coil On Plug) .
Maybe more than one. Very common ford problem for last 12 years.
If you get a MIL Light on the dash (the wrench),check for a PO300 Code.
A PO304 would be coil #4,PO306 #6 Etc.
Cyl 1 thru 4 on pass side
Cyl 5 thru 8 on driver side, front to back

Also hills cause a hi engine vacuum and thus a possible EGR Valve going bad. You can unplug the vacuum lines and plug, to diagnose that issue.

Also leave the EGR disconnected if your working on coil issues. Just note the MIL light will stay on all the time, and remember to check your 300 codes if you feel a hesitaton or miss.

Ford focus 1.6 zitec petrol, engine warning light flashing, engine chugging, very high fuel consumption, fumes smell when stationary, exhaust seems ok, recently change speed sensor and coil pack?

try the air filter first and the intake.the spark plugs then and after all go to a garage for checking compression timing and the head gasket.

2001 Focus ! light comes on when driving up hill

hi problem you got here is you need a new garage as an engine code will only tell you the circiut at fault and cannot be took litterley as it may say your psv valve so a decent tech would see if all the hoses are clear see if they are weak as they may be collasping under pressure you don,t just change the componant when you say the light comes on when going up hill which light waring light for fuel or engine code light as if this problem is worse going up hill it would suggest a fuel problem has this garage not got a fuel pressure tester yates210456 i would be cheesed if i kept having to pay for the same problem to solved
