Toyota celica dash board red light light comes on looks like a pan with steam symbls coming outt steaming pan is it the breaks or catalatic converter heating up

There is no warning light for catalytic converter heating uo. Brake light usually is a exclamation mark inside a circle inside parentheses. What you are describing sounds more like a temperature warning light for the cooling system.

That code deals with the catalytic converter. You might need to replace it or to fix another problem. Let me ask you, is it using a lot of oil? Or, is there oil in your antifreeze or a foamy look to your oil? If so, you may have internal engine damage that is causing the increased emmissions and is, in turn, causing the check engine light. If not, you may need a new catalytic converter.

Also, is this the only code, or is there another code that indicates engine misfires? If so, it is possible that these damaged the catalytic converter and will need to be fixed along with the cat.

Bank 1 is the converter on the side that engine cylinder one is on. Yes that is true about the converter, the computer is programmed for a certain value, an aftermarket cat will not meet that value and the check engine lite will be triggered.

1996 POLO - Dash light

Hi

It could be an O2 sensor problem, a catalytic efficiency problem, or even a blocked catalytic converter.

A diagnostic is required to find out which.

Very best regards
