Hi is it only the heater that affects the idling as even if the load is excessive on the motor the electrical load detecter should kick in and compensate so thats where to start no i have no idea where this is located on this model [its part of the ecu ,s set up and designed to increase the revs when electrical load is added] yates210456

Most probable causes are the engine coolant temperature sensor has gone bad or the manifold absolute pressure sensor is not sending the correct voltage signal. Both of these sensors let the ECM know when to go into closed loop fuel control.

My 2003 ford focus SE shuts off when i come to a complete stop. It does not have a rough idle and it does not do it everytime.

Here are the most common causes of surges, stalls at stops, low erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation (and other problems), it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake

Ford longreach with rough idle

a diagnostic computer check from your local ford dealer will sort that problem for you,the cost for that check should be around $50 and from then on whatever the problem wil cost you whatever your local dealer charges for labour or unless of course you are able to do it yourself which is cheaper in the long run, hope that helps,,goodluck.
