Question about 1997 Honda CR-V

CR-V Problem My wife got in her 97 CR-V and started it up, she heard a rumbling noise then the engine raced for a few seconds, then the check engine light flashed five or six times then it stayed on. I looked at the owners manual and checked the gas cap, which was ok. I guess it's probably a sensor that has something to do with the emmision control system. Have any other CR-V owners had this problem? Is it worth trying to fix myself or should I just take it to the dealer? The car is out of warranty so if I take it to the dealer I hope it wont be too expensive, I figure it will be at the bare minimum $100. Thanks in advance for any insight!!! Thr flashing engine light indicates that the engine misfired and that the misfires and poor running of the engine will damage the catalytic converter and emission components. The racing condition could also be caused by a bad Ignition control module (ICM) or a fault engine control module (ECM) If this goes on long enough, it could ruin your catalytic converter.

What i was thinking could be the problem could be a vacuum leak in teh engine compartment. if a vacuum hose gets detached i know that it will make some cars rev up high like that and then make the check engine light come look for that...if thats it its easy to replace. just buy the length of hose from a hardware store n attach. let me know.....ill look it up

Try disconnecting negative battery cable for a few minutes then reconnect. This will reset computer. Worked on my wife's car. It would start and shut off 2 seconds later for no apparent reason. Do you have a check engine light on? Could also be caused by a bad maf/map sensor or tps sensor

Mazda protege makes a squeaking noise when I start driving?

If your Mazda Tribute's engine has a rumbling noise when you start it, this is most likely from the drive belt. You will need to replace it.

I have a 2002 Chevy Cavalier. When accelerating and turning to the left and accelerating from a stop it produces a rumbling noise. I have also put it into gear, put the brakes and pressed the accelerator...

When turning, it produces a torque load on the rotation of the engine. The turning and this noise is heard, and can be duplicated while sitting still, sounds to be from an engine mount, or transmission mount that has or is failing. If more info is needed, please leave me more info. Craig
