I'm basically experiencing the same exact problem. I have a 2003 Sentra 1.8 GXE and it has been overheating on me as of late and the heater works sometimes only. I did a pressure check and it came out good and there are no leaks of antifreeze and my i have plenty of anti-freeze within the tank and radiator itself. I changed the thermostat but my car overheats more now! Please help, anyone???

I have the same symptoms in my 2003 Sentra GXE, 1.8 L manual, 120'000 miles. This morning, the heater did not work, and the temperature gauge fluctuated up and down wildly, almost hitting top temperature. The temperature indicator seems to tend to go up when the car is standing mostly.

OK, same guest as yesterday. My garage told me it was due to a broken thermostat, which I had replaced. Apparently, the head gasket in the Sentra really does not like overheating, so when it malfunctions, this is usually because of some underlying problem with the temperature regulation mechanism. I suggest to everyone experiencing this problem to BRING YOUR CAR IN FOR REPAIR IMMEDIATELY. A new thermostat runs around $ 200; replacing a head gasket easily comes to $1000 to $1500. Definitely not worth the risk.

I had this exact problem a few weeks ago. The repair shop first changed the thermostat. Didn't fix the problem. Next step, they found the radiator was clogged. They replaced the radiator and now everything works fine.

Does the car overheat at idle or travelling down the road? if the thermostat was not changed, thats first step. checking it is replacing it. possibly air-bound. then i would suspect a headgasket problem.

2003 nissan sentra no heat, over heating

If the engine has overheated, chances are pretty good that you now have a warped or cracked cylinder head and a blown head gasket. Those engines are very unforgiving when it comes to being overheated.
