Sounds like a problem with the auto choke or air/fuel mixture. what engine do you have?

  • Anonymous Dec 04, 2011

Hi Daniel the car is a diesel so that rules out the choke.
    Many thanks G

Diesels have a choke type mechanism too, it doesn't close off the air like petrols do but it does alter the fuel mix at the injection pump

sounds like there is a broken wire. the only advise i can give you is to follow the hot wire for that light untill you find the break in the wire.

Transmission

Welcome to FIxYa.
As a Toyota Service Manager, my opinion is that you may have the wrong transmission fluid in your car.
The RAV/4 takes Toyota "Type T-4" ATF.
Using anything else will definitely cause you shifting problems.
My advice: Get the trans re-flushed with "Type T-4" as soon as possible, to avoid potential internal damage.

Thanks for choosing FIxYa for assistance; a FIxYa rating for my advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
