Is there a easy fix for hard shifting on a 2005 monte carlo, had the fluid and filter changed, didn't help, was told by the transmission shop that it had a P1811 error code.................

Was told it could be the pressure valves located under a inspection cover on the side of the ******, I would have to drop the ****** to get the cover off, the frame is in the way....... can stop the hard shifting once it starts by pulling the car off the road and shuting off the engine which resets the computer, then it shifts ok for a while. the computer keeps increasing the pressure in the lines until it maxes out and shifts hard again. will continue to shift hard until the computer is reset by shuting the engine off. What do you think...... thanks in advance for any help in the matter...........

The p1811 code is the most common code for transmission in 1977 on gm front wheel drive vehicles
code criteria --
if the shift into any gear takes longer than .65 seconds to complete, code p1811 will set
the PCM will command maximum line pressure inside of the transmission resulting in harsh shifting
Basically the PCM is sensing a slip and is is increasing line pressure to maximum in order to prevent the transmission from damaging itself
there is a service bulletin link ( http:/bit.ly/P1811_bulletin
I am referencing from-- peoplestranssno1.blogspot.com.au or phone 1-888-415-2098
I went google and typed in --monte carlo transmission fault code P1811-- and the payless transmission &clutch p1811 is first up
there are plenty of sites that will help with the P1811 code

You need to rebuild the transmission,it's over heating. May want to check your transmission cooler first .

the complete nose up to the front doors are bolted on.the only thing that gets a little tricky is the lower radiator support. just take youre time and it can be all disassembled and rebolted with out too much trouble.

Likely the signal lights are controlled by an electronic module, not by the traditional bi-metal flasher. The bi-metal unit clicks, the module is a circut board and does not do that.

If your not familiar with air-bag systems don't touch it. If you make a mistake with your inspection and accidently set off the air-bag. It becomes a costly repair and/or could result in injury. special tools are used.

could be clogged transmission filter or shift valves in valve body sticking go to auto parts look for transmission additives to help free shift valves and buy transmission fluid for high mileage transmissions the fluid will recondition swell up transmission seal help transmission shift better.

Tranny wont shift to 3 or 4 gear

when is the last time you had the fluid changed? the fluid and filter is supposed to be changed in automatic transmissions every 12,000 - 14,000 miles. it may be something simple but if you don't have an error message or OBDII code to go along with your problems then more than likely its either the filter and fluid or it may also be about time to have the transmission rebuilt. Before the transmission is too far gone you'll see a check engine light that will come on with a code for not shifting properly or slipping. once you see that i would take it to a reputable shop to have it rebuilt before it gives you major trouble or leaves you sitting.

2003 monte carlo whining noise and hard shifts

Transmission. Check fluid level using proper checking procedure, which is usually get to operating temperature (take it for a short drive), park it in neutral idling, parking brake on. Fluid should be at correct level, and red in color. Anything else, have a transmission flush and fill, do the filter as well, just to be safe. It's a good place to start. And hopefully you don;t have bigger problems. Hope this helps.

2005 chevymonte carlo shifting hard intermittently

my son had the same problem on his 2003,i checked with a friend at a trans shop and he told me it has two senors in the trans (inside the cover on the drivers side ) and would cost $600.00 to $700.00 to fix,my son has a repair manual,so we looked it up,we bought the two shift senors cost approx, $100.00, thinking an easy fix,not at all, first we had to jack the car body up and drain the trany fluid, disconect everything,CV axel then we had to drop the engine and trans cradle down to gain acess to remove the side cover, the sensors took less than 5 min.to replace after we got the cover off, after about 8 hours of work, start to finish we replaced the two sensors and that fixed the problem, trans runs like new, this problem seems to exist in these transmissions my friend says,if you have some friends that know how to work on cars, you can save yourself alot of money, BEWARE if you let this problem continue you will blow your trans, hope this helps.

When do i change the transmission fluid 2005 monte carlo?

Well, I'm not really sure what the manufacturer's recommended interval is... But to be honest with you, once every 100000 kms, or 5-6 years is plenty for a transmission fluid/filter change is enough (yes, there is a filter inside the pan of the transmission, assuming it's an automatic). But, if you notice problems earlier (transmission starting to slip, fluid discoloration, or any other transmission related driveability issues) the first thing to do would be to do a transmission oil/filter change as soon as you can. Beware of these places that offer a transmission flush, that's about as useful as putting winter air in your tires, and costs money for nothing.
