P0230 - Fuel Pump Primary Circuit Malfunction NOTE: For natural gas applications, the following description applies to the fuel shutoff valve (FSV) circuit.
The PCM monitors the fuel pump (FP) circuit output from the PCM. The test fails if: With the FP output commanded ON (grounded), excessive current draw is detected on the FP circuit; or with the FP output commanded OFF, voltage is not detected on the FP circuit (the PCM expects to detect VPWR voltage coming through the fuel pump relay coil to the FP circuit). Open or shorted fuel pump (FP) circuit
Open VPWR circuit to fuel pump relay
Damaged fuel pump relay
Damaged PCM
When the FPF PID reads YES, a fault is currently present.
An open circuit or short to ground can only be detected with the fuel pump commanded OFF.
A short to power can only be detected with the fuel pump commanded ON.
During KOEO and KOER self-test, the fuel pump output command will be cycled ON and OFF.

Chevy Silverado 2002 2500 shows trouble code, P0230, and P0300

P0230 - Fuel Pump Primary Circuit Malfunction Symptoms - Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light) Possible causes - Blown Fuel Pump fuse
- Open Fuel Pump Monitor Circuit
- Faulty Fuel Pump Relay
- Damaged ECM. P0230 Description The Engine Control Module (ECM) provides ignition positive voltage to the coil side of the fuel pump relay. When the ignition switch is first turned ON, the ECM energizes the fuel pump relay, which applies power to the fuel pump. The ECM enables the fuel pump relay as long as the engine is cranking or running, and crankshaft reference pulses are received. If no crankshaft reference pulses are received, the ECM de-energizes the fuel pump relay after 2 seconds. The ECM monitors the voltage on the fuel pump relay control circuit.

Unfortunately there are no mechanical fixes available because that trouble code indicates a malfunction somewhere in the electrical circuit for the fuel pump and that would include wiring from the battery to the pump, the fuel pump control module and the and the car's brain, the ECM. It can be a loose connection, but if one is not easily found, then the problem has to be tested with special electrical testing equipment. More information is available but I can't post an illustration of the troubleshooting for this Diagnostic Trouble Code.

There is, however, an illustration that describes that troubleshooting at this location currently:
