My gas tank has hardly any gas in it and when I go to pump gas it acts as if the tank is full. It will spray back out too! All pumps do it and even a gas can won't work. It started off doing it every so often and now it is almost impossible to get gas into it?

Mike, I'm sorry, but this does not help my car. I've moved the nozzle in all directions and pulled further in and out but the pump keeps cutting off. Any other suggestions?

I have the same problem. When pumping gas it acts like the tank is full. Shuts off every half gallon or so. Sometimes when I try to start up again right after it shuts off, gas starts coming up. I've tried all different pumps in different states. They all do the same thing. Any help is appreciated.

I have a 2003 Sante Fe and my car started doing this about 8 months ago. I have tried everything as well - pulling the gas nozzle out a little - I've contorted all kinds of ways to get gas in my car - it takes a while - I have to keep my car running witht he air on so it doesn't shut off - getting gas has become a stressful venture for me. I realize not shutting off your car is dangerous but if I don't I can hardly crank it - it acts flooded.

Try to only insert the nozzle a short ways into your tank. Sometimes the air excaping from your gas tank can make the gas splash back to the nozzle. This will cause the pump to stop, so just try not to insert it to deep and that should FixYa.

i have tried that and it does not work. the only time the gas runs normal is when i almost reach the amount i paid for. for example when i put in $25 dollars when it gets to $24.59 then it would run with out no problem.

We can't put more than $20 in the tank before it starts to over flow, with the gas gauge on empty when we start pumping. Then the gauge reads 3/4 tank. When it runs down to half it jumps straight down to...

Your fuel pump assembly located inside the gas tank has a float that measures how much gasoline is in the tank. False readings means the fuel pump assembly needs to be replaced.

Car goes dead when gas tank is half empty what is the problem

Faulty fuel pump. Probably internal ground in pump. When tank is full, the gas will absorb the heat the pump generates keeping the pump nice and cool. Tank half empty, the pump is now exposed, with its long nose stuck still deeply into the bottom of your 1/2 empty tank. Now with fuel pump exposed, it gets hot, the gaskets and things inside the pump swell up, and the pump fails to turn. Your car quits untill the pump cools off, (if your lucky) can be only a second between cool and hot/non function.

3800 v6 pump

The pump could very well be shot. Running the vehicle that low allows the pump to get hot. Then when you add fuel, the coldness of the fresh gas can seize the pump. The best place to start would be checking fuel pressure.

I have a 97 nissan sentra ive ran out of gas 3 times this month and the last time i ran out of gad i filled it and drove it for a while that day then it shut off and wont start no more

more like fuel pump damaged. gasoline keeps fuel pump cool and lubricated if fuel tank run empty fuel pump will over heat which will destroy it. never run out of gas.fuel filter will get plugged with debris from fuel tank when tank runs empty all sediment botton tank will break up stop up fuel filter.

Dash gas gauge stops showing proper gas level once it hits half a tank. Then gauge will fluctuate between empty (light will come on), full and anywhere in between but seems fine from full tank to half

If the trouble with the gauge started after you worked on it then you likely damaged or created a restriction to the movement of the sending unit. You will have to remove the tank and double-check your work.

I ran out of gas and put gas in out of a gas jug the car started but is running rough and is worse when i push on the gas petal

you need 4 or 5 gallons gas to be on safe side.could be too late damage fuel pump.never run vechicle low on fuel.fuel pump needs gasoline to keep it cool and lubricated.add more gas see if engine run better.if not i would change fuel filter all sediment was disturb when you add gas to empty tank when you poured gas in fuel tank sediment break up stop up fuel filter.change fuel filter see if car run better if not more like fuel pump over heat and damaged pump motor bearing.

When my pontiac 2001 gets below empty and runs completely out of gas,why is it hard to start when gas is put in it. it will not even turn over. it takes a couple of hours for it to start and thats after i...

you never want to run your car completely empty,, the sludge and floating **** sits usually at the bottom of the tank and will clog everything,, injectors, fuel filters, and even at times the gas pickup inside the tank itself. if It was mine, I would change the filter first of all, then,, (when this happens) just turn the key to the on position, listen for a slight clicking noise,, that would be your fuel pump trying to bring gas to the right place. it takes time since it has to fill the lines and as you see recycles the air out of the line. turn the key off and do it again,, once the sound is gone, try starting it,,

My 2001 chevy silverado is having trouble starting i changed the fule filter and i can hear my fule pump runing but it takes right at 3 cranks for it to start.. It would try to start but just die on me......

Sounds like it. On new automobiles the fuel pump is in the gas tank, cools the pump, but you can disconnect the pump and put on an outside pump instead of pulling the gas tank and replacing gas pump and tank. Leave old pump in gas tank.

Says gas is empty but when at the pump its stops filling.some gas exits back from the tank, I figure its my pin any way to find out if im full or not?

What Pin? Your sending unit is most likely worn out,on a 19 year old vehicle. Pull gas tank and replace complete assy, fuel pump and all, while your there.
