Gmc envoy 2004

My speedometer is broken...does not even work. all other gages are fine
also when I start up the vehicle it makes a loud noise and runs hard then afer a few minutes of driving it quiets down. Sometimes the 4wh drive light comes on and randomly the rear end will experience a kick..like a knock or something

I have also had a problem with intermittent failure of the speedometer. It would slowly back off to zero while in motion and then not register at all. Now the speedometer seems to be working the majority of the time but the tach has stopped completely.

My 2004 Envoy XL's tachometer stop working a year ago and the mileage on my vehicle was just in the 30's and about 6 months later my spedometer went out also. I took it to the shop and they wanted $500 plus to fix it. I waited and it started to work again, but has stopped working at least two more times since. How can I get the company to pay for the repair?

2004 envoy with the same problem. Tach hasnt worked since we bought it 6 months ago and all of a sudden the speedometer just quit.

I had the same problem with my 04 silverado with the tach but i got it fixed under warranty. some kind of module went out. But hers isnt under warranty anymore so i need to know how to fix it.

Wow, I have the same thing with my speedometer. I have less than 40k miles and now speedometer will work 1 out of every 4 times I start it.

We bought our 2004 Envoy Nov. 2007 used. The speedometer worked for about 5 mos. and stopped working. We thought it was from an accident we had but our insurance agent said this was a recurring problem from a lot of Envoys. You'd think if there are so many of us with the same problem they'd do a recall? Ours just stays pegged at 120mph. It never moves. A GMC dealership wanted at least $600 to fix it. (the price could go up depending on the amount of time spent on it)

Temp and mph gages randomly are inaccurate. While stopped and even while the car is off, it says I'm going 5mph or up and the car is over heating. Makes knowing my speed impossible because it also changes while I'm driving

Blend door must be stuck open. Loud whistling noise at 60mph and higher coming through dash. Very loud. 2004 GMC envoy

Take out the cabin air filter that is in the plenum behind the glove box. This will lessen the noise but you should get the unit serviced soon.

Mc 2004 Envoy speedomiter reads in Km not mph ?

Guess.
Either the vehicle or the speedometer is from Canada, as is set up to run in that country.
Changing it will be a really big job, as you would have to take the dash apart, I think
If it were mine, I'd call a GMC dealer and ask them what it would cost to change it over.
If that were too expensive for you, you might consider finding a way to add MPH numbers to the plastic speedometer cover, like little stick on plastic numbers people buy at an office supply store.
Be blessed.

My oil pressure gage on my 2004 gmc envoy needle has move past 80. I checked the oil its fine. And the suv still running good with no smoke.

It is very possible that the stepper motor that drives the gauge is going bad and needs to be replaced. There are services that repair clusters, check on Ebay.

2004 GMC Envoy Speedometer Issues

This issue is caused by faulty motors inside your Envoy instrument cluster and can only be repair by taking out the instrument cluster and replacing the motors which requires de-soldering and soldering tools and the correct replacement parts.

I repair Envoy instrument clusters for a very reasonable amount and have a free 12 Year Guarantee on my work, you can see my site at www.DrSpeedometer.com

Loud air intake engine noise on startup

If the vehicle has a clutch fan, verses an electric fan, sometimes the clutch will spin the fan too fast or at erratic speeds. I'm not saying that's what it is, but just one possible reason. Seeing how you have the warrany, I would take it in and not leave until they have remedied the problem. Let us know how everything turns out and good luck.
