Does it light up ? When you turn the key on do the warning lights come on ? Check engine , oil , abs , air bag etc... just gauges not working ? Does the vehicle start an run ? With vehicle running is check engine light on ? GM had a problem with the stepper motors that control the gauges . How to repair GM Instrument Cluster Speedometer Gauge Stepper
Guess. Either the vehicle or the speedometer is from Canada, as is set up to run in that country. Changing it will be a really big job, as you would have to take the dash apart, I think If it were mine, I'd call a GMC dealer and ask them what it would cost to change it over. If that were too expensive for you, you might consider finding a way to add MPH numbers to the plastic speedometer cover, like little stick on plastic numbers people buy at an office supply store. Be blessed.
This issue is caused by faulty motors inside your Envoy instrument cluster and can only be repair by taking out the instrument cluster and replacing the motors which requires de-soldering and soldering tools and the correct replacement parts.
I repair Envoy instrument clusters for a very reasonable amount and have a free 12 Year Guarantee on my work, you can see my site at www.DrSpeedometer.com
If the vehicle has a clutch fan, verses an electric fan, sometimes the clutch will spin the fan too fast or at erratic speeds. I'm not saying that's what it is, but just one possible reason. Seeing how you have the warrany, I would take it in and not leave until they have remedied the problem. Let us know how everything turns out and good luck.
