1997 nissan silvia

I was driving my car along fine the other day then it started making sounds like it was going to run out of gas. I thought this was the issue, however after getting gas, it was still doing the same thing, spluttering and idleing strange as though it was going to run out of gas yet I had just out some in. Any help or ideas welcome!

If it idles rough at a stop light or sign, or in park but runs fine above 1000 - 1500 RPM my guess is gonna be a vaccum leak. very very common, check near your charchol canister.the leak it-self sounds like a whistle but the car usually sounds like a cammed out hot rod. spray carb cleaner around the engine and listen for an increase in idle speed. if the car idles like that and has lack of power, check that your spark plug wires arnt sitting ontop of the engine and have melted or heated up enough to wear down to allow a spark to jump through to the block instead of the spark plug. NOTE* do not inspect with the engine running you runnthen possibility to get shocked.

Thank you so much Brennon, we pulled the spark plugs out last night and it looks like these could be the problem! So we are replacing them! I will check the vacuum leak part also - this could be it. Thank you so much for this!

I had the same problem. I just did a full tuneup including a fuel filter. Car runs like new.

1997 nisssan pickup 4 cyl. 5 speed. Truck runs fine at all speeds until the engine gets really hot (outside temp 100+ degrees), then engine sputters and will not take gas. Acts like old cars that had...

There may be more specific solutions along shortly, but my older car had similar problems until I changed the ignition module. The "spark box" as it was nicknamed. My car was a mustang, but it only seemed to act up on hot days, and if I just pulled over and allowed the car to cool for a bit it would go again just fine. I'm not familiar with Nissan trucks specifically, but it's another place to consider. Good luck!

97 civic ex aem airintake megan exhust everything runs fine and i un screw the gas cap one day then thats wen the engine light came on it doesnt idle bad it idle normal and runs normal so ideas cuz...

The emission light came on because when you had the gas cap open the "EVAP system ran its test and thought it detected a leak in the system. The light will clear itself after it doesn't se the same problem after a set amount of drive cycles. make sure you keep your fuel cap on tight to prevent this in the future.

I HAVE A NISSAN d21 2.4L 1987 hardbody pick up as im driving when i let up on the gas pedal it seems to stumble just a little bit then it seems fine after that ???

Sounds like it could be faulty fuel injectors. (unless of course, it's carburated, then it'd be a poorly adjusted float)
