I put the key in the ignition. The key would not turn. The security light came on but the key seemed to be stuck. we turned the steering wheel to see if we could get it to lock. It would not lock and the key would not turn.
Just a little humor. My robotics teacher had this problem with his car. I don't know what he did but he had to open up the entire steering column and I believe realign the key hole. Is there anything stuck inside?

Check if security light is on, if so, must reset. To reset, put key in ignition and turn to on position. Security light will start flashing on and off. Leave key in on position until security light stops flashing and turns off completely. This will take approximately 10 minutes. Then turn key off and take out of ignition. Put key back in and start car. Should now start
You need to relearn the passlock system (security). There are 2 ways. One is with a scanner, which most diy'er wont own an expensive one to do it this way, here is the manual way. Start the truck and let it run until it dies. The security light should then be flashing. Leave the key in the run position until the security light stops flashing (about 10-15mins). After the light stops flashing turn the key off. Try to start the truck again. It should do the same thing (run for a few seconds and then die with the security light flashing). Again wait for 10-15 mins for the light to stop flashing and then turn the key off and repeat the process one last time. That's a total of 3 times. Once you finish the process the 3rd time. Let the truck sit for a minute with the key off. It should now be programmed and start and run normally.
If the wrong key was inserted it may have bent a tumbler pin, maybe try some wd-40 or similar and work it with the right key, might drop the tumbler back,,if not the whole ign. cylinder will have to be changed
Hello, you'll need a new ignition switch. You much have a lot of stuff hand off your key chain, yes or no. The more stuff hanging on the key chain more weight is inserted on the locking pins and spring in the tumbler of the ignition lock. It will finally get were one can start their vehicle.
If you can still start this Chrylser then remove all the keys and stuff that not necessary. Maybe, ignition key, trunk key, house key, gas key and post office key. The rest of the stuff put on another key chain. No more than 5 or 6 keys and no junk; such as, flash light, rabbit foot, charms, thing-a-gig, whata-you-call-it, a do-hicky, the knife that never been open, pepper spray. and whay ever else is hanging on the key chain. YOU CAN TURN OFF SECURITY LIGHT BY PUTTING KEY IN THE IGNITION SWITCH.TURN IGNITION TO ON POSITION,WITH ENGINE OFF.LEAVE KEY IN THE SWITCH IN ON POSITION FOR 10 MINUTES UNTIL SECURITY LIGHT TURN OFF.IF IT DOES.TURN OFF IGNITION SWITCH.WAIT 5 SECONDS THEN TRY CRANKING CAR.IF THIS DONT WORK TRY ANOTHER KEY DO THE 10 MINUTES SWITCH TRICK.IF STILL THE SECURITY LIGHT DONT TURN OFF YOUR THEFT SECURITY SYSTEM IN FAULT THE DEALERSHIP HAS TO FIX AND REPROGRAM NEW KEY IN SWITCH OR BCM CONTROL MODULE..
Try turning the steering wheel while trying to turn the ignition. Didn't work? Can you remove the key? Use some WD40 with the tube and spray a little in. Put the key in, pull it out, repeat several times. Put the key in and wiggle the ignition lock back and forth.(try while wiggling the steering wheel back and forth, too.) Still won't move? Try pulling the key out just a small fraction of an inch and try turning the ignition.
Still no solution, time to give up and call a locksmith.
