The way I understand this question, is that you were driving when the engine locked up. In that case, I would say that you have blown the engine, and you are hearing your starter spin on the flywheel because the engine will not crank over.

I replaced my starter on my 94 ford ranger. my truck won't start, when it cranks, it makes a loud grinding noise. How can I fix this problem?

When buying starter motors it is essential that the starter pinion teeth are of the same pitch as the flywheel ring gear. Not all starters from the same make fit different engines because of this problem. However I would be checking that I had put the starter in the housing properly as any misalignment will cause your problem

If it's not a transmission problem, which is usually the case, I would check to make sure your drive shaft is still connected and that the u-joints are in good shape. If you can possibly see under the truck while someone presses the gas, you can see if the drive shaft is turning. If the drive shaft is spinning and its still not engaging, that loud noise may very well be the gears grinding/broke inside the back axle (rear differential). Just a few things to check, hope it helps in some way!

It's your starter making the grinding noise, may be going out,to test, you must remove,Autozone will test for free.

I hear a loud grinding noise when i drive my car

Check front tyres & wheel bearings espesially the R/H/F. Feel tyre for high / low spots on inside & jack up & spin wheel if you get noise while jacked up it is not the tyres but wheel bearing or brake pads but more than likly a crook bearing by the sound of it. It needs to be tended to ASAP

That sound is going to be your door lock motors wearing out. I would suggest getting them replaced pretty quickly as they will soon stop locking altogether. It's not cheap, but it isn't horribly expensive either.

I hear a loud grinding noise when I turn right

It is probably a bad wheel bearing. If it only makes noises with right turns, I would check that.

Auto locks for front 4x4 2007 f150 cant stop grinding noise

Are you under warranty? Make it the dealers problem if its eligible.

If the front hubs are grinding regardless of being in 2wheel or 4wheel drive it can be the hub bearings which turn regardless. If it grinds only when in 4x4 then the wheel shafts or differential or front driveshaft or transfer case is making the noise because all of these parts move when in 4wheel drive.
