Question about 1996 GMC Jimmy
Just got done rebuilding my 4.3L Vortec and got the motor running good. However, a plug on the side of the tranny was unplugged. I plug it in and when I try to drive, it grabs too early and stalls. Same with reverse. If i remove the plug, it drives, but in 3rd gear. I know it won't shift when plug is unhooked, but why is it stalling? Computer need reset?
Myne did the same thing. It was the fuel pump. it didnt seem like it to me, but when replaced, it worked like new,

EGR valve can be take off and cleaned, but what it sounds like is the fuel line to the injectors are leaking, put a pressure gage on the fuel line and see if it holds pressure when the key is on. it should reach 60 psi and hold for about 5 seconds without dropping. If the smell is fuel I would suspect the inlet fuel line is leaking. When you take the upper manifold off, which is easy. 10mm socket will do. If you see a clean area on your intake and the rest is dirty. its leaking. Just turn the key on, don't start and see where its coming from.
