Question about 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier

Relay to starter

My car was running fine then i parked it and went into the store, when i came out to turn my car back on it wouldn't even turn over...all the lights work inside and out, its not the battery, I had 3 mechanics come look at, they told me it was the relay to the starter and i need to replace it, my only problem is i have no idea where to get a new relay! helppp!!!

    i tried autozone...and advanced auto and napa they said they'd have to order it and it could take a few weeks, and i dont have weeks

    not sure if a relay is rhe issue but the symtoms the same...drove it .. parked it.. the tryied to go on errand and car would not start...checked battery and distributer cap andelectrical pionts to cap...at a loss...could it be the starter switch...or possibly the starter coil.

Hmm, i would have went for the starter relay,check connections on starter,it also sounds like it might be a fuse, or a fuseable link.

My daughter has a 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier Z24. Yesterday, when she was driving it up a hill, the car wouldn't accelerate even when pushing the gas. She stopped and put it in park for a few seconds...


The cavalier 2.4L engine had a problem with the crank sensor intermittently going bad. Sometimes it will run sluggish for a few minutes or even stall but eventually crank back up and run fine. The sensor is about $30 and can be changed in 10mins. It is located directly above the starter.

My timing chain tensioner was loose, however i kept driving my car cause i had important errands to run.When I parked it to go in the store and came back out and started it up again it wouldn't. Lights...


If the tensioner was loose and the chain had jumped a slot, you would have a hard time even starting the car if it even start at all. It would crank and everything but just would not start. The starter has no correlation with the tensioner. A bad starter will either do nothing, or it would clunk and not turn over.

2004 Sante fe 3.5L 2WD went out to go to work and wouldn't turn over, (assumed dead battery), went down and got new battery and installed, still wouldn't turn over, (assumed starter shot),removed...


TEST POWER LEADS TO STARTER FOR POWER
AT STARTER (BATTERY POSITIVE TO STARTER BATTERY NEGATIVE TO ENGINE BLOCK)
THEN TEST FOR SIGNAL POWER TO SELENOIDE ON STARTER
(KEY TURNED TO START POWER SHOULD GO TO SELENOIDE)
IF NO POWER TO SIGNAL WIRE CHECK FUSES AND RELAYS
ON STARTER CIRCUIT
IF THIS CHECKS OUT MAY BE AUTO TRANSMISSION NUTRAL PARK SWITCH
TRY TO START IN NUTRAL OR WHILE SHIFTING TRUE GEARS SLOWLY WITH SHIFTER
IF STANDARED CHECK NUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH
