See if you can cut out the rubber bushing below the large flat washer & that will expose the lower part of the bolt. now put a large visegrip on it & you should be able to remove the nut. a lot of those are locking nuts making them hard to remove. hope this helps.

make sure you turn off air suspension switch.you remove retaining nut by grasping steel dust tube.you need to place an open end wrench onto the hex stamped into metal cap of the dust tube.so you need open end wrench on top shock where you see hex nut on top shock metal cylinder.wrench will hold stud in place while you loosen top shock retaining nut.

How do I replace the rear shocks on my 97 Lincoln Town Car

Is there a spring on the outside of the shock???? If so then it is really a strut and you will have to take it to a qualified service dealer. If no spring, it is pretty easy to do. Jack up the car, put jack stands under the rear axle, remove the nut on the bottom of shock and the bolts on the top and slide the shock out. Install the top of the shock first (if a gas shock) when you cut the wire tie that is holding the shock compressed, you have to line it up with the bottom bolt as it is coming down.

91 Olds custom cruiser front shocks

There are 2 ways to solve your problem. One mechanic friend of mine always used his deep socket and snapped the shaft, freeing the top end of the shock. If you prefer to loosend the bolt, hold the shaft with pliers in one hand while loosening the bolt with the other. Both methods work equally as well. Best of luck.

My 1998 lincoln towncar off-balance

Sounds like shocks/struts. Usually if they start sagging it's because of a problem in the suspension, like shocks or struts.

Instalation of rear shocks on [95] towncar

It will take a fairly long wrench to get to the top shock nut. It is right between the frame and the body. It should take about an 1/8th a turn at a time. A wratchet wrench is best for this task.
