Question about 1999 Toyota 4Runner
My rear window (Tailgate), Rear defroster stopped working out of the blue.
No blown fuses. I took the panel off the tailgate and I got the window up by putting 12volts to the window motor. Since the window can be powered up, and the defroster does not work I am inclined to think the relay (or what I think is the relay box) is bad. Any way to tell for sure, and if so can I buy one after market or some place other than from a dealer?
Thanks for the help,
My 1999 Toyota 4 Runner had similar problems. The yellow wire and blue wire that the previous person posted, were broken on my 4Runner. These wires exit from the vehicle at the top of the back door on the 4Runner. And then, go through a rubber hose to the actual rear door of the 4Runner. My yellow and blue wires were broken right at the location where the wires exit the vehicle. I removed the rubber sleeve on the wire harness between the back door and the vehicle and found the broken wires. I sodered the wires and taped them up. All my problems were resolved. The wiring harness is easy to remove both at the vehicle and the back door. This is where you should inspect these wires.

I suspect that the back door ECU (the relay box that you speak of) is bad.
Here is how you check:
With the Key On, you should have 12 VDC in the Solid YELLOW wire going into the box.
Also, You should have power in the solid BLUE wire going into the box.
Operating the switches should transmit power to the BLUE with RED trace, and the VIOLEt with WHITE tracer.
If you have the right power as described abobe, the box is indeed bad. This is a dealer item only, cannot buy one at the local parts store. Sorry. Hope this helps.
