How to change my fuel pump for a 99 Pontiac Bonneville See where is it located

its in the fuel tank. you will have to drop the gas tank to change it. support car, disconnect fuel and vacuum lines to tank, disconnect fuel filler tube(hose you put gas into car), disconnect the electrical connections, support fuel tank, undo the fuel tank straps and lower fuel tank, clean area around fuel tank unit, remove the unit lock ring and pull out unit, follow the instructions that come with the new fuel pump and re-assemble in reverse order, replace the fuel filter at the same time.

Does pontiac grand am have a relay,or switch or button to turn electrick feul pump back on after car runs out of gas?

Your make and model car has no such fuel pump cut-off device like a switch, and in any event it is only activated due top a crash exceeding 3 times the force of gravity, . GM uses a oil pressure switch to shut down the pump but only in the case of an accident. The small electric fuel pump that is used in this car depends on the gasoline in your tank to cool it and lubricate it, when you run out of gas it damages the fuel pump due to heat and it will not restart. I get this problem posted allot. It is very important in modern cars with in fuel tank electric pumps that you not let the fuel level go below 1/8 tank on the gauge. You will need to have the fuel pump replaced and to do that requires the gas tank be removed from the car.

Do I have to remove the gas tank to inspect/change the fuel pump on a 1991 pontiac grand prix?

Unfortunately, yes. It's a pain. I own a 1991 Pontiac grand prix SE 3.1L.

My fuel pump problem started when I ran out of gas (gas gauge was offset) Of course it shuts off w/o gas but it will more likely kill your fuel pump and clog the $#!t out of your filter.

If it makes a buzzing sound under the vehicle w/o the engine running, near the trunk area, replace it along with the filter.

What is the life span of fuel pumps in the gas tank,on the 2003 pontiac grand am.

That would depend on how you take care of it.
Running the vehicle bellow 1/4 tank would help to shorten the pumps life span. Running them empty is even worse.

The electric pumps in the tank use the fuel to keep them cool.

Where is the fuel pump located in my 2001 pontiac grand prix? Is it in the gas tank?

yup and there no fun when the tank is full of gas. you can find the big fuel take filler hose under the car and loosen the clamp then use a hand gas pump or other means of gettting the gas out then loosen the bolts holing the gas tank in use a block of wood or something to keep the gas tank from falling on you and take the bolts to the fuel tank straps out the tank will come out easy from that point now your gonna have to disconnect the power conecter to the pump and the fuel lines as well you local auto parts store will have disconnect tools for the fuel lines there only 8 bucks or so.

Car is cutting out around 2000 rpm

you have to change the fuel filter and for sure the fuel pump that is in the gas tank which you have to take down and the fuel pump is on top of the gas tank. Take wire one by one and put back the wire slowly by saving you repair costs. Easy tasks but no smoking around the tank.

Fuel pump - 2003 Pontiac Grand Am

2003 Grand Am GT,You have to drop the fuel tank, remove heat shield, remove all lines, electrical plug ins, then you are ready to do straps,be sure to go get extra nut and bolts for straps (2) of them had to cut off old ones, once straps are off depending on how much gas is in the tank used jack to lower tank, fuel pump was a twist off with locking mechanisms on top of tank, used a rubber malet and screw driver to loosen, pull out after diconnecting plug ins etc, replace blue plug in for harness to fit new pump, was recommended since it could corrode, lifted tank back up connected wires, lines etc,put key in on position 3-4 times for pump to pump, car started 1st time,my first fuel pump took my son and I 2 1/2 hours, new pump $250.00 wire harness $15.00 and two new nuts and bolts $3.25

In tank, see link for procedure. Make sure it's pump causing problem, as other items come in to play also.
