Is the sound coming from under the bonnet with the bonnet up while your listening our can you here it from inside the car is it the radio thats making the noise if so it needs the leads with surpressiors if it under the bonnet and sounds like a ticking the sparks arching from the high tension circuit see if you can darken under the bonnet so you can see if you can see the arching its no coincedense that it started when you put the leads and plugs in you could do a process of elimenation put the old leads back see if noise goes etc yates210456

Why does the engine on 98 chevy blazer skips and shake in park and driving ? Could it be spark plug wires are bad ?

Sounds like it can also be a bad mixture. start with the cheap process of elimination..start with you plugs, and check the butterfly on your intake, signs of too much carbon buildup could be the sign of your problem, and lead to misfire inturn causing the shaking

How to spark plugs

Spark plugs and wires typically don't need to be change but every 50k miles (and thats early on most newer cars.) First go buy new plugs and wires at your local auto parts store ( I recommend Advance Auto Parts) and get the best plugs you can buy (good for 100k miles) Your wires need to be hooked up exactly how they come off so please do them one at at time. No tools needed for the wieres. They pull right off. Now for the spark plug you can use any standard socket that will fit but there are sockets (most come with tool sets) that have a rubber bushing in them so that when you pull the socket out once you unscrewed the spark plug, the plug comes out with it. Very handy socket. But it's that easy. It would be my advice, as you seem like a novice to do one plug and wire combination at a time. Don't over tighten you spark plugs. They should be fairly snug but if you crank down on it, you will snap it off inside your motor.

Try the spark plug wires, it sounds like you aren't getting a good spark. The distributor cap could also need cleaning or replaced. - David (you know me :-) )

Check Utube for lifter tap, valve tap, and rod bearing noise. If you pull each spark plug one at a time, plugging it back in after each one, the tapping will go away if it's a rod bearing. At any rate, on your next oil change add some valve-medic or similar additive for valve noise. Make sure you follow direction or you will get massive lifter tap if you pour it into a cold engine.
