Question about 2000 Hyundai Elantra

1 Answer

Gas tank i have another problem with my 2000 Hyndai Elantra. When I try to fill it up with gas the pump keeps clickin' like the tank is full but it isn't. It'll take me about 10 minutes to fill up. I have been having this problem for a minute now, I'm scared to find out what the problem is and how much it'll cost to repair. Could someone possibly tell me what the problem is?

Hi first of all i will address yours first as yours doesn,t have a engine check light on the return pipe on the petrol tank is blocked not allowing the tank to breath as your filling [causes are non return valve stuck closed trapped pipe or the pipes collasping . as for the guy with the engine light on you may well have the same problem but i would get the engine lights code checked as it could well be a problem with your emmissions venting your tanks fumes out yates210456

What does The code P1440 Mean on a 2001 Hyndai Elantra?

I looks to me like part of the gasoline evaporation emission
control is out of sorts. The gas fill cap may be loose or possibly missing, or it's seal failing. There is a "canister" as part of this system that should absorb the gas fumes from the tank. There may be a problem with that. If you are due for an Emission inspection get it fixed. You probably won't pass.

Having problem with trying to gas up the elantra. gas pump handle keeps clicking off. have to squeeze handle real lightly to fill up tank takes a long time to fill up. help

I know you probably won't like my answer, but seeing as I am a service tech for gas stations, the nozzle has a safety feature which shuts/kicks off when gas splashes back into the nozzle, thus keeping the gas from running over when the car is unattended and nozzle is locked. You can try pulling the nozzle back til it is barely in the tank or try a different gas station as some nozzles are different. As it is the shape of the fill tube on your vehicle. Hope this helped Tim

Where is the fuel filter on a 2000 hyndai elantra

If it's anything like the 2000 Hyundai Accent (which it probably is) it is mounted on top of the gas tank. First make sure you have a tank that is less than half full (8lbs per gallon), then jack up the car and place jackstands in a secure place. Then place a jack and 2x4 under the tank. Remove the 2 straps and slowly lower the fuel tank, it's most likely on the passenger side on top of the tank.

I have a hyundai elantra 2000 have a code po442 and gasing up it act like it full so what the problem also it has over 120,000 miles on it

Hello! The 2000 Hyundia line has a common fault in the design of their evaporator system; The handling of fuel fumes. If, at any time, you may have overfilled the gas tank, gas will saturate the charcoal canister. This causes small pieces of charcoal to circulate within the evaporation control system, clogging it up, not allowing the gas tank to be filled. Does your Elantra have trouble accelerating, run rough, or stall? Probably so. Take the car to someone you trust and have them flush the evaporator system with the canister removed. You will more than likely need a new canister.

Unable to put gas into the tank. Pump keeps shutting off like the tank is full, it's not.

There is a filter on the tank vent that is plugged. It is not letting the air escape from the tank during fillup causing positive pressure which will will shut off the gas pump. I don't know where it is on your model but some are under the back behind the fuel tank. It is usually a 6" square plastic box with a hose on it and louvers on the sides.

Can't fill the tank

There is a breather tube fitted to the tank which allows air to escape when you fill it with fuel.

That is either blocked or compressed.

When you take the filler cap off is there a gust of air in or out of the tank

Can't pump gas into tank when the outside temp is below freezing

That is an issue I have never heard before, but I would pour some gas line antifreeze into your tank. It sounds like you have some trapped water in the tank.
