The only brake light that works when I brake is the one up in the back window. The others work when running lights are off but if I have my head lights on then the break lights don't come on. It's like the running lights and the brake lights are equally bright so their is no difference when the brake is applied while the running lights are on. If some one can give some insight to this problem it would be greatly appreciated.

Tail lights not working did the right thing in checking the obvious so what you need to do is find your brake light switch which is on the brake pedal [top] take the the connector off get a spilt pin or something that will by-pass the switch connect together if these brake lights only work with ignition on don,t forget to switch it on your brake lights should come on if so replace the switch

there will be a wire from the fuse to the lights that is shorting out follow the wires back from the tail lights to find it . Check inside the bulb holder to see if the short is there

Check in your vehicle fuse box for the side lights fuse if is blown. Most of the vehicles separate the lights with fuses to work.

Tail lights do not work on a 2000 lexus rx 300 bulbs are fine, all other lights work fine

You may have a fried fuse. Look in your owners manual to find out which fuse it is in the fuse box diagram. If that is the problem make sure to use the same amperage fuse to replace the burned one with. I fried fuse is usually a sign that you have a short somewhere. But they can also fry for other reasons such as excess moisture somewhere. Sometimes they just burn from age and fatigue. It may solve it to just replace the fuse, but if there really is a short, the new fuse will fry too.

Why would both tail lights and brake lights go out at the same time on my 1989 toyota pick up?

Might 1st Check to see if the Fuse that goes to Your Tail Lights is Good.If Not Replace it.If that does'nt WorkTake the Rear Red Lens off and take a 12Volt Tester After Removing the Bulbs and Check to see if you have 12 Volts Reaching you Tail Light Bulb Sockets. And make sure they are Grounded Good.If the sockets for the Tail Lights have 12 Volts to Them ,Replace Thye Bulbs With New ,Hopefully this Solves Your Problem. No drivers side tail lights in 06 dodge sprinter where is the fuse?

If other parking light work in the front or the rear than you don't have a fuse problem. You need to check the wiring to that lamp or you just need a new bulb.

Have you check your fuses ? There is a tail light fuse. you will find fuse information in your owners manual.
