I have the same problem. I took it in recently and the mechanic could not figure it out but suggested that it may be a fuel filter problem. He mentioned something about the electronics package being tied into the fuel filter sensor???

The problem is MOST LIKELY a bad solder connection on the instrument cluster circuit board.

You need a dealer, there is a real problem going on here, way over the head of any home do it yourselfer. The main reason is the special tools required to interface with the control modules that are throwing these codes

My 2004 chevy silverado duramax speedamoter is not working right, sometimes it don't move other times it goes to 120mph

I had that problem on my 01 Sierra, Lithia said it was the ignition switch, 500 dollars later it wasnt the ignition switch. I traced my problem to a loose wire on the main fuse box under the hood. It connected only sometimes which caused my guages to snap around. Hope this helps.

Alternator

You need to verify you replaced with the correct amperage alternator, I went to AutoZone with part in hand for my 2004 2500HD Duramax and they gave me the incorrect one, had the exact problem you describe, installed the greater amperage alt and all is well for 10000+ miles now.
