96 cavalier key won't turn

I've got a 1996 cavalier...My key won't turn in the ignition any more...i can't turn it to battery or to start my car...my car is in park and i have tried to jiggle the steering wheel while trying to start it..I've also tried my other copies keys for the car and they don't work either.I think the part that the key goes into might need to be replaced???

Replaced ignition switch in 1999 chevy cavaliar rs, anti-theft light comes on and stays on and won't allow car to start and remain on or run

You have to do a relearn procedure on the anti-theft system:

Attempt to start the vehicle. Leave the ignition on until the THEFT SYSTEM indicator turns off (about 10 minutes). Turn the ignition switch off. Leave the ignition switch off with key in for about 10 minutes. Attempt to start vehicle.

How do you program a cavlier ignition sw

The proper way to reset ignition is, First make sure you have a strong battery, 2 , make sure the radio and any thing such as lights are not on , 3 . turn the key to on position and walk away for 10 minuets. turn the key off and restart. That will do it most of the time, good luck and hope this helps, keep me posted if that does not work then your going to have to do it 3 times making it a 30 min relearn progress which is on the newer cars.

Will not turn over at all

Hi, you need to either check that you have enough power, check that the starter is good, or check the starter relay to start. When you turn the key in the ignition do you hear clicking or anything?

Solution for "Need help programing keyless entry remotes for 96 cavalier

The following worked for me: get in the car and shut the door, then put the key in the ignition and turn it till all the dashboard lights come on, but don't turn it any further and start the car, then press the "Lock" button on the remote, if the doors then lock then it has reprogrammed.

Hope this works for you.
