Re: Airbag light indicator: Jeep Grand Cherokee 1997
There are many sensors and and each airbag have sensors so you will have to get it scanned to know where to start. just a note air bag parts can be very expensive so check out your local salvage yard. they can save you hundreds. good luck paul

If the abs light is on and the horn does not work generally it's due to a broken "clockspring" in the column. You can replace that but definitely need a haynes or chlton manual to use as a guide. If you do the repair without instructions or don't follow them exactly, the air bag can deploy in your face (hurts a lot....dangerous). If only the horn isn't working, I'd get another opinion before allowing anyone to do the job. The clockspring and airbag are separate items and I don't see a reason to be replacing the airbag (unless the dealer found something I'm unaware of, but I doubt it).
Re: oil light - if it's not making loud engine noises, and oil level is up check your oil pressure sending unit. Either the wire is lose or off or the sensor is bad (they're cheap to replace)
The air bag light on/off indicates contact problem. Have dealer check that out, air bags are explosive and dangerous for the DIYr, plus dealers will usually do this under Fed. Warranty safety.
I have a 2002 jeep grand cherokee Limited and Had similar problem. Found out that a wire/connection harness had gotten cut under PASSENGER seat.from seats moving back and forth. It's part of the airbag system, it tells airbag system if seatbelt is fastened and if occupant is in seat. Since the wire is broken, it can't report back to air back system and activates the light. try this, hope it helps.
have the jeep scanned by a dealership NOW!!
unless you dont mind driving with the airbags disabled!!,
--you basically have an error with the air bag system!!, and can only be diagnosed by the dealer's scanning software,(welcome to new age cars!)
Are you using the seatbelts?
The airbag light is on because there is a problem with the system.
PLEASE do not try to fix the airbag problem yourself.
You could accidently activate the bag and get hurt.
