Question about 2005 Audi A4
On 2005 model A4s the rear lamp must be removed to access the bulbs. Just one bolt hols the lamp in place on both the saloons and avants. Inside the boot by the lamp is a tab which needs to be pulled outwards. Behind this is a 8mm bolt with a philip screw slot in the top, unscrew and remove, avoid dropping into trim (especially on avants!) The Lamp can then be gently prised out, ball type plugs locate the lamp into the wing that require a bit of presicion pulling outwards, not back. Disconnect the wiring and unclip the bulb holder. Bulbs can be accessed.

It's likely similar to my 99. Pull back the carpeting in the trunk behind the light, and you'll see a plastic tray mounted vertically with a harness plugged into it. That's the "bulb tree" as it's called. Pop that out, remove the blown bulb, install a new one, and then snap the tree back in place, and you should be good to go.
