I have a 97 buick century and been having trouble starting it, wal-mart said bad battery so replaced it then had trouble starting and said may be something else wrong, went home, now car wont start, could...

it could mean that the starter is bad, but it could also be something easy like a loose connection on the battery a bad battery wire, or a dead battery indicating the alternator may not be functioning
you stated that you have been having problems starting it, I am assuming that it was really slow cranking over which is why you replaced the battery. if this is the case then you are probably in need of a starter.
hope this helps

The car will not start. All the lights come on, dash, interior and head lights. The car will not turn over. It does not even try to turn over. I looked at the battery terminals and they looked very clean....

COULD BE FAULTY STARTER SOLENOID OR STARTER. CHECK THEFT DETERRENT RELAY.SCAN WITH CODE SCANNER FOR THEFT SECURITY TROUBLE CODES.IF ALL IS GOOD.SHIFT TRANSMISSION IN NEUTRAL SEE IF IT WILL CRANK.FAULTY NEUTRAL SWITCH WILL CAUSE NO START PROBLEMS.

Need to located where the starter is to check connection? new Battery, but still having trouble with starter turning over.

Follow your positive battery cable, it will lead you to the starter, or a remote selenoid which will have a cable going on to the location of the starter

VW POLO 1.9CL Diesel 1997 wont start

hi from uk check the main lead from battery+positive to the starters solenoid is secure ? also there is a thin wire that also connects to solenoid on a terminal of its own this is the solenoid energizing wire that works starter when key start position is selected if all above is ok? then use a jump lead and connect one end to battery negative post then the other end of lead to a suitable earth point on engine ? then try starting? if it works/starts ? you have a bad earth connection to engine from battery negative lead check the earth lead connection at point on engine is clean/secure ? it usually is secured by bolt at point where engine and transmission connect ? hope this helps?

Locating the starter on 90 Ford Festiva

Hi? Let's give it a bash!
Look where your gearbox meets with the enjin, locate the bolts that holds enjin and g/box together. The starter motor is located there and the connecting bolts are inline with the above mentioned bolts, the starter motor bolts on to the g/box and is located on the top half of the gearbox, should easily be visible ( under the hood, not underneath the vehicle.
Alternatively follow the thick red wire from the battery possitive to the rear of the starter motor also note that there is a thinner red wire from battery possitive to the alternator.
I hope this advice is helpfull!
Regards.

Starter replacement on Volvo S90

There are usually 2 wires that connect to the starter. One is a large, thick wire, about the size of your little finger, It comes from the battery. The 2nd wire is a thinner wire, kind of like a soda straw. The large wire goes to the large terminal of the starter and the thinner wire goes on the smaller terminal. Be sure the ground terminal of the battery is disconnected before you try to hook up the starter.

Hope this helps Loringh PS please leave a ranking for me if appropriaye Thank you
