Your ford has power assisted breaks this power is delivered from the motor, at the point when the accelerator is inactive. There for it sounds like your idle speed setting is too low, if you have a rev counter then it should be reading around 1000 revs at idle, if not the idle needs increasing. Hope this helps

1998 F250 diesel jut quit while driving down the road.

With a diesel I'd have to look in to the fuel system. I'd check the pump first. I know from personal experience when a fuel pump dies on a fuel injected engine there is no warning... like someone reached over a turned the key off.
I hope this may have helped,
Tom

2003 F250 6.0 diesel hit 5th gear and starts shaking when acclera

the mechanic should check on the electrical system of the car .the battery , the coils ,.the rotor the fuses , the starter solenoid , the sensor the spark plug and the distributor assembly. check for worn out and corroution . If there is then clean if not any more working then replace.loose connection also may be one cost of not warming. The fuel pump should also be checked and the idle to be adjusted for acceleration. The inter cooler do not have a problem with this it don't have a connection. It should not be touched.the surging when you place it to the fifth gear may be is about the quantity of the gas or fuel that is going to the engine when running.

This engine has a heated intake and glow plugs. The heating element draws alot of juice from the batteries. After the heater cycles, the volt gauge wil jump back up. This is normal. Good luck
