Take a fuel pressure gauge for a ride --tied to wipers

See if your loosing fuel pressure when it quites ,or see if
that data is avail on scan tool

Some brands of pumps don't last long,so I heard & see from

I guess a relay for fuel pump could have a bad primary coil in it

Try switching them around-- to something else you don't need
all the time

You'll have to figure out if it is a fuel or ignition problem.
Is the check engine light on ?

As a first course of action, I suggest that you have the fuel pump checked. It can be failing that's why the fuel supply cuts off. You may need a fuel pump replacement to resolve the problem.

I answered a similar question earlier. Your not very specific in what "shut off" means but if the whole vehicle turns off (electrics lights etc.) have your alternator and belt checked... many times a cracked or old belt can cause the car to loose power if the alternator already is older or weaker.
The other option is that you may have a problem with the fuel air mixture, on the oldsmobile's you will find that the fuel filter requires to be swapped out every 70,000 km's and the air filter would need to be replaced every so often depending on need.
If the fuel filter is past that service there is a danger that your fuel pump can be damaged, so definitely have that checked.

I have a 99 olds intrigue 3.8l Autozone computer states poor electrical connection or short circuit, or failed vehicle spped sensor or drive gear mechanical fault. speedometer works sometimes and drives great next time it raises rpm and speedometer does not work. Where is the speed sensor or where is the elctrical circuit I can check to see if connections are good.

you have to drop the gas tank in order to change out the pump

1 take the straps loose thata hold the tank
2 put a jack under the tank to hold it as you allow it to come down
3 unhook the lines that run to the tank as well as the wiring harness
4 unhook the fill tank hose
5 lower the tank to the floor
6 remove the O ring that holds the pump in the tank
7 pull the old fuel pump out and put the new one in the same way the old one came out.
8 the rest you do in reverse order.

is the security or theft light flashing if so it is a pass key issue
