Question about Ford Fairmont

2 Answers

I replaced the starter motor on a falcon EF sedan, since I have replaced all the parts, Charged the battery and tried to restart the car.... It wont start, there is no spark, we have looked at the boot light, all is good, we had the RAC come have a look and he could not start the vehicle either, would it be a problem with the computer, if so, how do I replace it, or is there anything else.. There is no spark being generated at all.

Thank you for getting back to me so soon,

Yes it was working properly and firing well, it seems there is no spark at all, the RAC said something about the security system may have shorted or perhaps something along those lines, we have the smart lock button and were engaging it properly. the starter is turning over, but just no spark.

Did it have fire on the motor before you replaced the starter, or is this a first time start? Please respond and I'll be better able to help you. thanks.

Sorry, more questions to better help you...What year model is the vehicle?

I'm going to have to say I've never heard of that year model when it's come to a Falcon. I was to believe that Falcons were made in the 1960's. I would have to say there is an ecm(electronic control module), which controls the firing, coil packs that also control the firing, there's a distributor module. Actually many possibilities linked to the firing. My best solution, and I say this a lot, would be to find someone with hand-held scanner to run diagnostics on the system. That's what I would do if it were my vehicle. Maybe this will be of some help. Good Luck.

Try starting with gear indicator in neutral if it starts replace your neutral start switch if this was helpful please leave me good feed back if it still wont crank I would suspect (1) low battery (2) bad or dirty battery conections (3) bad starter solonid or (4) Bad ignition switch.

Our 2001 saturn sedan wont start we only hear a click noise. can it be a blown fuse for the security on the car that may be causing the car not to start

Chck that the battery is fully charged . There used to be a syaing that, "many clicks means it's a bad battery. One click may be the starter". The solenoid is not engaging the flywheel. If the battery is fully charged the starter is bad.

Check the voltage on your battery. When the battery is low, you will still have lights and what not but not enough juice to start the car. Check the condition of your battery cables especially your ground. If everything check out fine, your problem may be a bad starter or the solenoid. If you replace the starter, replace the solenoid with it. Be sure to check the cable from the starter solenoid to the starter.

Firing order for a 1996 EF ford falcon

EF & EL are 1,5,3,6,2,4
EF has a coil pack under the inlet manifold the EL has a distributor
EF uses a waste spark system so 2 plugs are fired at the same time eg 1 & 6 - 2 & 5 - 3 & 4
