Question about Honda Accord

1 Answer

Driving down the road the car was fine, then shut off while coasting at 40mph. Then came back to life. The tach was fine 3 to 5 sec latter the tach dropped off to nothing the indicators lgts came on. Then I coasted into the drive way were it was stopped. I am a diesel mech, it has been along time since I touches a gas engine. I got the up to the house. First thing I checked was for spark, no spark. The coil has three wires to it, and only one has power to it. There is no spark. What is it?

Thanks for helping. But the coil needs a singlr from the dis to fire, and that was a ignitor that was bad, not the coil. Thankx anyway.

If a vehicle shuts off while driving down the road. then restarts after about 10 minutes, its a bad crank sensor or the wiring to the sensor. A check engine light may not turn on. If the light is on. You can take it to any auto parts store to have the code read by a scanner for free. Auto-zone, Advanced ETC. Its worth a try! But first check the fuel pump relay, It may be getting hot and shutting down pump. Try swapping a relay of the same type, if it is ok, thats the problem. Hope this helps!

Engine shut down while driving

When it shuts down while driving I am guessing that you have to coast to the side of the road. At this point if the truck is still turning over but doesn't seem to get gas the I would replace the fuel relay. This is a small and inexpensive part that usually corrodes over time. Corrosion shorts out the board itself.

I have 2004 Ford Explorer with a thumping feel and sound. When I drive over 50 mph and let it coast, the thumping starts. I feels as if it's coming from the back but not sure. The check engine light is...

if your lucky, its just a u-joint going out.

try replacing the u-joint which connects the driveshaft to the rear end(differrential), and if that does not solve it, then have your differrential checked out (a bad differential usually wont get all the power to the wheels that its supposed to) or just have it replaced, possibly with a junked differrential form a wrecked vehicle with low miles.

While driving all the dash lights (airbag, seatbelt, every warning light flashed) and the speed odometer and tach jumps back and forth for a second and everything went back to normal. The truck never missed...

I am not positive about my answer but I figured I would give my feedback anyways. It is possible that your alternator might be going out. In my experience, I had a '95 Maxima where, as I was driving, the battery and brake light would come on for a second and then it would turn off. A couple of days later, I needed a jump start. After driving down the road and after the car shuts off on me again (even after the jump), I realized that I needed a new alternator. Sure enough, the alternator solved the problem.

Shuts down going down the road shuts off completely

vehicle shuts down while driving down road and does not start backup for at least 20 minutes, could be a bad crank sensor. if bad it will start and run fine, but it will keep shutting down until fixed.

2005 dodge durango driving down the road,

Are you actually hearing the engine speed change as well when this happens, or just seeing the tach needle make crazy readings??

If only the tach is being funky, then I would say a speed sensor on the tranny is on its way out. There is also a speed sensor on the rear axle of some Durangos that can cause this issue.

Honda CR-V - 2004 - High RPM not returning to Idol RPM ????

i'am no expert on this car, but i would chk. the T.P.S. (throutle positioning sensor) there also may be carbon build up on throutle butterfly, not letting it close completely when you take your foot off the pedel.
