Question about 2000 Ford Contour
All of a sudden won't start. Was able to jump it twice to get it going. After that no more. The battery was changed about a year ago. Battery Cable (Positive) was changed about two months ago due to excessive over heating and corrosion. Check the voltage on the battery and it was 12.4V. When you try to start it, you can hear the solenoid knocking and the dash lights flashing in unison with the solenoid sound. Even the windshield wipers are going with each pulsation of the solenoid. But the car is not cranking. I thought for sure it was going be the starter. After much to do, I got it changed out, but the new one is doing the same thing. I noticed on the box of the starter that many Fords have an external solenoid out side of the one on the starter? Does the 2000 Contour have one and if so, where is it?
If there is another solonoid itll be in line with the main power cable coming from the starter.follow the starter power cable from the starter to the battery if you dont see anything inline it probably doesnt have one.your problem could also be a ground problem........try running a wire from the starter case to the neg batterty terminal........a set of booster cables is the easiest way to do this.........dont short the pos and neg terminals though
