Idle Problem when warm, 1999 Ford Explorer 4.0L SOHC

Rough Idle when warm, only at stop or slowing to a stop. Idle slowly drops roughly after stopped then bottoms out at 500 rpm. No vacuum leaks found so far, EGR system checks out, getting a on board monitoring code about initial pressure check test failed for evap system. Stuck Closed or Open tank purge valve? Brake Booster Leak?

This could be a bad a/c compressor or compressor pulley bearing.Try removing the serpentine belt and turning the compressor by itself.The bearing should turn very easily,and the compressor itself should turn.If it is vety hard to turn,it is bad.

SOURCE: 2001 v6 escape rough idle when cold

To update my earlier repair on the 2001 6 cyl Escape: When cold, and when the ignition was turned over but no accelerator pressure given, the rough idle finally returned the P0303 code again when the check engine light came on indicating that it wasn't caused by the plugs or the coil. FYI, I had replaced the intake manifold gaskets during the original repair and just prior to that I had replaced the fuel filter which was very dirty (I cut it open to see).

The repair manual referred to fuel injectors as a possible problem. I have run three tanks of fuel using different injector cleaning products and am very pleased with the results. Cold starts are much smoother and I am unable to coax out the P0303 code or any other code.

My opinion, change the fuel filter, use a fuel injector cleaner for a couple of tanks, change the plugs if the problem still exists. The coils were not the problem on my vehicle.

SOURCE: Mustang GT 4.6 EVAP Canister Purge Valve Location?

You will need to remove the right front wheel & wheel well liner. The canister purge valve is behind the cover. It should have two tube going into the bottom and one on the side near the top.
You can fix it!

SOURCE: Rough idle and engine will shut off after warm.

Check the exhaust manifold gasket. I have a 2003 SVT Focus I had a problem with it loping at low RPMs. I had a free flow exhaust system. When I bought a new exhaust manifold I replaced the gasket and the problem went away.

SOURCE: P0441 EVAP Control System Incorrect Purge Flow

Test the purge valve and the vent valve for leaks. This can only be done with a Tech 2 and or a vacuum pump.

2005 ford explorer 4.0 sohc 70,000 miles rough idle in park or sitting at stop light . runs perfect when driving . no check engine light
Try replacing your fuel filter. If it is dirty then sometimes it causes issues like this.

1999 F250 4x4 Rough idle, miss when warm. No CEL.
I know this will sound Stupid But, Change the Cap Cap. If the Seal is Bad on the Cap it will allow air Into the Fuel tank and Cause your Rough Idle.

Rough idle and a thud coming from lower engine in reps of 3 or 4
have the carrier bearing checked...if the are loose or worn they will do that or the u joints will cause ti to happen,,,,,get it fixed soon...
