Question about 1986 Jaguar XJSC

1 Answer

XJS V12, 1986. Loses power and splutters on hard acceleration

Drives perfect otherwise, put your foot to the floor and the engine dies even when not under load. Does not blow black smoke when spluttering. Some kind of fuel starvation?? Ideas please

My 91 Jag XJS V12 was running fine then parked it and left idle for about 45 minutes then when I went to take off it lost its power and would fall on its face when trying to drive. You could sometimes rev it up in park but did not want to run in gear it would only idle. Now it wont even try to start at all. I checked fuel pump it has 90 LBS. pressure. New fuel filter. It has spark at plugs and I can here injectors opening. Please Help. Thanks

need more details like year and have you read the codes ,suspect either a dirty diesel filter or a problem with the throttle position sensor on the floor under the dash

I would take the truck to an autoparts store and have the fault codes retrieved from the computer. Most stores will do the scan for free. I would lean toward a faulty throttle position sensor, but that's just speculation. The fault codes should narrow the problem down. Hope this helped and best wishes.
