----IF --- the water is the (only) issue, you won't be able to
do anything yourself, without a couple decades of vehicle
experience, once things get really wet, you have big problems
When you drive thru water you could end up scrapping the car,
as most shops won't touch that type of work
What has to be done is go wire harness & all it's connectors
one at a time & blow them dry
Also have to check every fuse, every fusible link & may need
wiring diagrams to work on, say on or two problems, IF the rest
of the car & it's systems come back to life okey
I fail to see how long that would take or cost
If you get lucky, maybe only the starter has issues
The clicking is the solenoid trying to engage the starter,
but are there other items wet or fuses blown, check ALL fuses
& links
We seldom get the real story here or at a repair shop from
a vehicle owner, they allows hold back some secrets on what
really is going on.
You need to have your flywheel: replaced.Your starter motor engages against the fly wheel at the back of the motor. Every time your motor stops it tends to be in the same few positions (just the way things work) so there is more stress on some parts of your fly wheel than others. Because of this the teeth wear out on the fly wheel which means the starter can correctly engage on the fly wheel which is the grinding noise.
usally smoke indicates a burned wire form too much resistance. you may need to replace both the positive and negitive battery cables with a new starter.
replace those and go from there try to turn the engine by hand. hopefully it is not locked up .if it would not turn the stater may have drawn too many amps and burned your wires.
Sounds like either a poor connection at the battery, ground, or starter. Could also be a problem with the starter/solenoid itself.
Start by checking the battery connections and the connections to the starter and engine on the large wires. I put in a new battery one time and didn't get one of the connections tight. I would work most of the time and then every now and then just click.
This Sounds Exactly Like A Bad Starter, SMACK the Starter With A HAMMER 3-5 times If it Starts Replace it if It Does Not its Still Likely to Be Starter.
It sounds like an injector problem....try filling the tank, and adding a bottle of fuel injector cleaner...that's the least expensive way, I would try that first. You may have to do this a couple of time if their real dirty.
