when filling fuel i can only put a couple of gallons in at a time. then i have to wait until the suction of the gas to go down then i can put in a few more gallons and repeat. sounds like there is not enough air gettin in to the fill spout

I have the same problem on 2003 Sedona. It will fill normally for a couple of fills and then on next attempt to fill it takes 10 mins to get in $20. Check engine light seems to always come on if gas attendant doesn't click cap 3X. Fuel gauge give unconsistant readings as well as DTE computer readings.

You will need to replace the filler neck, the vent hose inside the filler neck gets kinked and causes this problem. The air can not vent back out of the fuel tank as you fill it.

SOURCE: I cant fill up gas tank

normally the pump stops the nozzle from pumping gas, your gas tank is full. bypassing this safety feature is not reccomended as the tank will become over pressurized and eventually you will smell gas around your vechicule due to a blown seal between the tank and filler neck.

I cant fill my gas tank. the gas spurts out when I try to fill tank.

The only thing I can suggest is perhaps you are trying to fill the tank to fast or the nozzle is not in the correct position.
1. slow the fuel speed
2. move the nozzle to different depths

I have a 2004 Monte Carlo. Have there been issues trying to fill the gas tank? I can't open up a gas nozzle as it stops like the tank is full. The gas just does not go down cleanly, backing up or...

You either have an obstruction in the filler tube or the vent tube on the filler is clogged so it is not allowing air to escape as the gas is going in.

2001 Durango acts like the gas tank is full during filling cutting off the pump. The only way to fill tank is to pump gas really slow

Chrysler and Dodge have a fuel vapor filter that allows air out of the gas tank but filters the harmful fumes. Usually the problem happens from topping off your gas after the gas pump stops due to the automatic shut off and then putting more gas in the tank (to make the bill an even $50. or to the next $5 increment, or pumping more in just because it fits). Anyway the filter gets saturated with gas, is not able to breath, and causes a vacuum in the tank. Because of this, the anti-siphon ball is not able to float around and sits at the opening of the fuel fill tube and won't allow any more gas to be put in (acts like the car is full). If you pump super duper slow like put a nickel to hold the gas pump handle, it will trickle in without a problem, but it takes forever! Solution, get the filter replaced and don't over fill the tank.

2004 mazda 6 with 3.0l V6..WHen the gas guage falls below a quarter tank the car shutters really bad getting on and off the interstate. Almost as if no gas is getting pushed to the engine. Dealer ship said...

Find out how many gallons your fuel tank holds. Once it falls below a 1/4 tank and starts to shutter. Proceed to the nearest gas station and fill up. If you fill it up with 12 gallons and your tank holds 12 gallons then your fuel gauge is off. So it should be reading empty instead a 1/4 tank.

Fuel keeps backing up at gas pump when filing tank.

There is a vent tube alongside fill tube, look to see if it's bent, pinched or somehow damaged. Some are metal, some plastic or rubber. If it's closed off or narrowed down for any reason, you will have difficulty pumping gas into the tank.

Filling with gas

There is a fuel tank vent tube that runs down the filler tube to let the air out of the tank as you fill it, these tubes get kinked, replace the tube, this is part of the filler neck assembly so the whole thing must be changed out.
