That was my first thought, but I someone told me if you pushed up and down on the car and it kept traveling up and down after you stopped then the struts might be worn out. That is the current situation with my car so that was why I thought about the struts also.

No it's not a strut problem it's just that the belts in the tire are weak so the tire needs replacing immediately so you don't suffer a blowout please rate.........thanks

I have a 2008 Nissan Maxima, at 70mph the rear left tire seems to have a wheel balance problem, the tire makes a funny noise and the rear end shakes. The tire is wearing uneven also. Is this a wheel...

To check and see if it is a strut problem push down on the rear of the vehicle. the car should only bounce 1 to 2 times once released go from side to side if it bounces more than 2 times that shows a worn strut. You can also jack the vehicle up and check the rear tire for play. if you have play it could be a strut or a trailing arm bushing.

1996 mustang gt makes a reking noise when turning

There are several possible causes to your problem.

Most likely it is a ball joint.
A bad strut mount will make a similar noise. Sometimes dirt/rust in-between the strut spring and the rubber insulators can cause a creak.
If the environment is really dry or the rubber bushings on the car are really old, they can cause a creaking noise.

I would have it checked out because if it is a ball joint, it will eventually cause uneven tire wear and can even separate, resulting in total loss of control of the vehicle.

You mentioned the noise was from the left (drivers side) front. The compressor is on the passenger side in association with the engine compartment. Question, once the noise starts does it continue while stopped or only while moving?
