When you put your key in, do the lights turn on? (or a better question would be if you put your key in the ignition and open your door do your hear the open door sound)? - If this is it, then you should start on the battery.

You might have a bad altinator which would prevent your battery from recharging while in drive.

make sure to check your coolant tank at every fill-up for a few fill-ups. This problem has a way of coming back if you don't top up your coolant at just the right times.

get radiator cleaner put that in your expansion bottle .run it for about 20 miles to clean both the core for your radiator and core for your heater. then drain it .refill with 50/50 mix of anti freeze.put your heating on full .with the cap still off .run the engine till water starts to get hot .then refit the cap.

Need to flust anti freeze.Anti freeze is a thick ,gummy texture..

if the anti freeze is not serviced regularly the dexcool will start sludging up the system
if the old type (green)anti freeze was added this will also cause the same.
drain system completely & add water,run for 10 -15 minutes & drain.do this a couple times
& then add a good flshing agent with the water.you may need to do this several times with
flushing material.after it looks better.add anti freeze & consider reflushing 1K miles or so
dont forget to bleed the system of air. bleeder valve(flat head screw) near thermostat

good luck

I just changed the radiator. How much antifreeze do I put in?

put a 50/50 mix. remove radiator cap when cold, start car let run 1 min and dump 50/50 mix till full, a little will come out cap when thermostat opens this is normal, when thermostat opens coolant will go down, continue to fill till full, put cap on and fill reservoir to cold mark, check reservoir after you run a day and fill if needed to the full cold mark again

Car idols rough and has started over heating had auto zone pull codes and they said it is the fan. needles to say we replaced that and the problem did go away. had a/c relay switch replaces 4 months ago....

a/c relay has to do with a/c compressor. Do you have a/c? If so it's not that. You could have a bad thermostat. Have you replaced one yet? That would cause the over heating. The rough idel I'm not sure what to tell you there. Sorry.

My car is heating up and sounds like it is missing, my heat gauge pop up in a short drive, and its very cold outside around 20.deg.the engine light comes on sevice soon.could it be a leak and where?

Hi, First of all if there is an over heating condition going on, the 20 degree temperature out doors will not make a difference. You could have a leak and if you are able, raise the hood and check the coolant level. Do this when it is not hot. Check the plastic resevoir where you add anti-freeze or water. When it is cool, remove the radiator cap and if it is low, fill it with the required anti-freeze. Install the cap tight and start the engine and let it run. Look around the hoses for water leaks, and take a look under the auto for water pouring out and you will know if you have a leak by the amount of anti-freeze you added and if you see it leaking. With the gauge reading hot, and the engine starting to misfire, this is not a good sign. This can and will cause the engine to freeze up!! You can blow a head gasket, crack the block and do much internal damage to this engine. I know as This just happened to my daughter a while back, it was over heating and she didnt no it and didnt see that the heat gauge was buried on hot. It locked up the motor from this and I had to spring for a new engine. She said she only noticed it missing and loosing power. So, check the hoses, radiator, turn the heater on when its warm to see if the hoses are leaking. Try and refrain from driving it if it is over heating this fast. You may have a thermostat that is closed shut. You don't want to blow this motor up!! If you find a hose leaking and you can change it yourself, great. If you see no leaks, its time to have it towed to a shop. This is your best solution, as you dont want to loose the motor. Keep me posted on what you find. Best of Luck to you,
Sincerely,
Shastalaker7

Changed anti freeze and now car runs hot and no heat

air lock. You'll have to loosen a heater hose or something, and run it with the rad cap off till the antifreeze goes into the system.
